The year is 2117. In the farthest reaches of Earth's territorial space, a spree of depraved murders has local cattle ranchers fearing for their families. A fear, they will soon discover, that is more than justified.

Apparently, John Gallic's reputation proceeded his arrival to the fringe-world of Muleshoe. A reputation suggesting he be given a wide berth. As the new Territory Abettor, commonly referred to as a Frontier Marshal, Gallic would be there for the long haul.

Formally titled Detective Chief Inspector of the Spatial Colonial Police - District 22 - he'd investigated only the highest profile murders and was a rising star within the department. But that life was in the past. Gallic now provided an assortment of backwater law enforcement services to the burgeoning deep-space frontier territories. Sure, there was an occasional small-time crime to investigate, but more often than not Gallic spent his days - commissioned by the big Interstellar banks - repossessing billionaire ranchers' high-priced spacecraft. A glorified repo man. He was fine with that. It gave him spare time to do the one thing more important than anything else - find the murderer of his wife and child.

I liked the rugged old west stick to your beliefs attitude of the MC. For a Space-Opera, it was a fun listen. Again the narration was excellent which inturn enhanced the story.

once a lawman etcetera

Great reading. Really enjoyed the narrator. Keeps an interesting pace. Will look for more books narrated by JPC

Great Narration

I liked the beginning a lot. The main character was broken, yet strong and driven. Then, there were just too many childish actions and retorts. I lost interest half way through. But, oddly enough, wanted to see what would happen to this man after he solved the crime(s). I purchased this book thinking it will be a series. After all, Audible lists this title as book 1 (of presumably a series). Obviously, the writer had no intention of it being such. So, yeah, kinda feel duped.

Started strong, then, just kind of went nowhere

20 minutes in on my first listen and I'm already saying the next line before the narrator. Sometimes you want to not be exhausted, so this can be OK if the story is otherwise creative. The dialogue did at least get a little better later, even toning down the initially mad visions subplot that was terribly overdone.

In the end, not a bad story, but definitely not inspiring. I made it through though and didn't feel that my time was wasted so it must have been entertaining enough. The voice actor did well enough too. I'd give the whole package a B-.
