A fascinating look at the key components of romantic love - sex, idealization, aggression, self-pity, guilt, and commitment - argues that romance does not diminish in a long-term relationship, describes the barriers to lasting love, and offers helpful advice on how to promote an enduring love by eliminating self-destructive efforts to protect oneself from its risks.

I came to this book because Esther Perel cited it in her book, “Mating In Captivity.” I was intrigued by her views on the tension between safety and desire in romantic relationships. Can Love Last? is a mostly well organized and accessible deeper dive into the psychological dimension of this topic.

Thought provoking and insightful

I'm not very smart. So, it took some effort to grasp the point of the material. Great info if you can understand it though.

High level thinking!

I think this book, a lot of Esther Perell's and James Sexton's and like authors books are all hovering around the same topics, data, and explanation. It was recommended by Andrew Huberman and I decided to give it a try. It's very useful for thinking of romance, relationship with your partner and your own ability to withstand and transform the inevitable disappointment at the dissolution of romance.

Not Unique, but Practical

The whole point of this book is that we crave stability because loving deeply makes us vulnerable, but that stability squashes romantic passion. There you go. No need to read the book. incredibly long-winded stories, unnecessary examples and lack of conciseness in general. Overrated

It was written and narrated like narrated like a nonsense report. Punch up mambo jumbo gathered from other people's book and wards. I just was praying to end quickly.
