Critic reviews

"Narrator Steven Weber keeps the tension high in this debut thriller written by a former flight attendant. A plane has been hijacked. Bill, the pilot, is faced with a choice: Crash the plane, or his wife and two children will be murdered. The story jumps around from the plane to the kidnapper holding Bill's family to events in the past that shaped the characters. Weber sounds authoritative as Bill speaks to his passengers and keeps his emotions in check as he develops a plan to ensure the safety of his family and those on the flight."

Editor's Pick

A turbulent ride from start to finish
Summer is a good time of year to pick a listen for pure entertainment value—so I went for something I’d normally be more inclined to binge-watch in a lineup of disaster movies (a favorite cinematic genre of mine and something of a guilty pleasure). Falling is an in-flight thriller—a fast-paced ball of suspense that’s a pure joy to try to catch. I love that T.J. Newman is a flight attendant turned debut author and that Steven Weber of TV’s Wings fame narrates. Weber’s performance has equal parts “voice in the sky” omniscient vibes and retro “I know this guy” feels. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into an airplane, here comes something new to worry about. Am I the only one who oddly welcomes the distraction? —Tricia F., Audible Editor

I'm glad I wasn't on the plane, but I did enjoy the flight. It was a good first novel by T.J. Newman. I kept thinking I will take a break at the end of this chapter and then noooo I have to hear what happens next till I finished the book. Plus you can never go wrong with a Steven Weber read!! I see with my eyes the events he brings out in the words.

Look forward to the next projects by both!!.

Gripping Good Time

Good first book, written by a veteran flight attendant. I enjoyed some insight into flight attendant perspectives. I haven’t flown in a few years, but the last time I did, I had zero cell phone reception. So much of this story involves cell phone communication between pilots, passengers and the ground.

Could be a great movie.

The first part of the book was riveting. It fell completely apart with the ridiculous situation where Theo jumps in the car crashes into several others and heroically find the missing family. The final scene was contrived and trite. Very disappointing.

Strong beginning (spoiler alert )

Non-stop action from the first page. I can’t say enough about the author’s debut novel. A great story!

Excellent!
