From the author of The Monsters Know What They’re Doing comes a follow-up strategy guide with MOAR! monster tactics for Dungeon Masters playing fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons.

Keith Ammann’s first book based on his popular blog, The Monsters Know What They’re Doing, unpacks strategies, tactics, and motivations for creatures found in the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual. Now, in MOAR! Monsters Know What They’re Doing, he analyzes the likely combat behaviors of more than 100 new enemies found in Volo’s Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes. Your campaign will never be the same!

This title is basically just more great examples of 5e monster/creature combat tactics and behavior from the first book “The Monsters Know What They’re Doing”. I am somewhat surprised that a different narrator was chosen for this second entry as the first narrator did a great job in my opinion. The narrator in this book (Jonathan Davis) does a serviceable job, but mispronounces a few words in unfortunate ways (e.g., Piscine is supposed to be pronounced similarly to Pisces but Jonathan pronounced it Pis-seen). Also there were a few confusing moments in terms of how the chapters are split up on audible. The chapter about Giff was followed by a chapter on combining different enemy types, but I was thrown off because audible basically included the combining enemy types as part of the giff chapter and I missed the transition mid chapter. This made it slightly hard to follow. Still need to finish the book and see if any other anomalies are present but it doesn’t detract too severely from the overall value of this audiobook to 5e DM’s and strategic players alike.

A great guide for 5e combat with some minor flaws

High quality, insightful content that showcases careful thought went into this book. It's presented in an understandable and interesting format and performed splendidly by the narrator, whose warm tones and calm but enthusiastic delivery is a pleasure to listen to.

Excellent stuff!

This is a book I’ve been waiting for since I first discovered the first one, I’ve listened to the original as a reference for D&D dozens of times while at work to prep for games. The last readers voice was a perfect learning tone but now with this book… do you like learning from the show, “How it’s Made”? Well this narrator has essentially the identical tone as the narrator on that show, you’ll hear it don’t worry - perfect 12/10*
