Publisher's summary
Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Every Saturday night, she gathers with her three best friends—Peach, Millie, and Stacy—and drinks the same margaritas while listening to the same old stories. Intent on shaking things up, she puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends... but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman who shows Olivia that there is more to her life than she ever dreamed.
As Liv’s latent magical powers come to the surface, she discovers that having an interesting life is maybe not all it’s cracked up to be. The dark side of someone else’s magic is taking over good people in town, and changing them into vessels of malevolence. Unwilling to cede her home to darkness, she battles the demons of her familial past and her magical present, with those she loves at her side - and in the cross fire. Can the most important things in life—friendship, love, magic, and waffles—get her through the worst that the universe can throw at her?

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

Story
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Sparrow “Ro” Meadowcroft is about to get the promotion she’s always dreamed of–curator of the museum where she works. She loves old things and the history that surrounds them, so when a patron leaves some items to the museum, Ro is eager to dig in. The sword in the stone that comes with those items is clearly a joke. A well-made but obvious replica meant to be a conversation starter. Why anyone would think that belonged in the museum is beyond her, but she can’t resist taking a crack at it and finding out if she’s the chosen one. And as it turns out...she is.

Cute and Entertaining
The narration was perfect for this story and nuances were very cute.
A quick read and for a magic based story-line, I though this was enjoyable.
It wasn't much of a romance book though, and the intimate scene seemed to be thrown in as an after thought.

Good, but not Awesome - Great Narration
Any additional comments?
The narration on this was (like all Amanda Ronconi's work) excellent, the story... only okay. It started well, but did not live up to expectations. Like Molly Harper, but not as witty. The female lead, while somewhat likeable did not have the wit or strength of Molly Harpers leads.
Good for a light listen, but not great.

A chick fantasy magical romantic romp!
Where does A Little Night Magic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
A Little Night Magic can't be compared to other audiobooks I've listened to, as I have a wide range of books for a wide range of moods. This is a light, entertaining book; when life is too stressful for a deep or cruel novel, it can lift your mood.
What other book might you compare A Little Night Magic to and why?
There is a trend for light-hearted vampire romances. A Little Night Magic is a bit like those: light-hearted, but without the vampires. Yes, there is evil to be defeated, and a sound storyline. But there is no doubt throughout that the girl will get her man in the end.The magic system is not entirely serious: one of the characters in the book has a talent for conjuring the most awesome cakes and pastries out of thin air.
What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Audiobooks bring a lot more detail to a book than reading it, as you can't flip forward through the boring or tedious bits. So they have to be well-written and engaging -- I abandon far more audiobooks than I ever did printed ones. That said, Amanda Ronconi reads it well; she has the tone and light-heartedness of the story just right. Some of the parts may seem a bit syrupy and "goody two-shoes" were you to read them; Amanda Ronconi makes them sound at least sincere.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This is not a moving book; it is entertaining. But you know there has to be a bad guy. And you know they have to defeat the bad guy... and get rid of the body. I did smile at their solution.
Any additional comments?
What I liked about this book is that the heroine does not do any of those intensely stupid things that make you want to run a mile. (I turned to it after reaching sticking points in two other books where you just know something incredibly bad is going to happen and you don't feel like facing it just yet.) Yes, our heroine does do stupid things that advance the plot, but you can always understand her reasons for doing so. And there are a lot of decisions she makes that you question the wisdom of. But overall it is a light and likeable story that will easily see you through the pile of ironing.

Decent but flawed - Mostly good listen
In general, I liked this story. Its fun and definitely rings of a Molly Harper-ish style. I love Amanda Ronconi as a narrator in general. However…the main character of this story DROVE ME NUTS. She was whiny and very child-like. She was extremely presumptuous and then would be unnecessarily offended when that person put her back in her place. She was also rude as all get out to one of her friends…said something really hurtful and then said that that friend would apologize later…when the apology needed to come from the main character.
When it got down to it, that actual “action” of the story…good Lord she was horrible lol. Not sure if this is a spoiler or an FYI but don’t expect anything amazing. I get it that she’s new to everything but most of what she does falls flat and she fails A LOT. And not in the “its all still new and she didn’t know any better” kind of failing. She fails in a way that makes you almost hope there is a different main character in the next book.
All that griping aside, the bones of the story are good. I did enjoy it though I found myself spacing out on some parts and not rewinding and still being able to keep up with the story. There are some really good, edge of your seat parts. I enjoyed the story and will likely be listening to the next installment with very high hopes that the main character mentally grows up and is more….aware of the world. DEFINITELY hoping she’s not as whiny in the next book.

I really hope this turns into a series...
Would you consider the audio edition of A Little Night Magic to be better than the print version?
I prefer both... first time reading on my own but then having Amanda Ronconi breathe a new life into the story is great.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Little Night Magic?
I love the Saturday night confessionals... reminds me of times with a group of my girlfriends who I do not see nearly enough anymore... will have to see up a Margarita night myself...
What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I loved her narration of Molly Harper's books so much I got this one just because she was the narrator. I found this story just as entertaining mainly because of Amanda Ronconi and the life she gives to the characters. Sometimes when a narrator does multiple voices for multiple characters it just doensn't quite work. Not so with Amanda Ronconi.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes... went straight thru it
Any additional comments?
If you like the Molly Harper books I believe you would be pleased with this author as well. Will have to try more books by this author. There was enough of funny to make me laugh, enough plot to keep me interested, and characters I enjoyed. It's a light romance (anyone up for a steamier book might want to look elsewhere) but the relationship works... where in other books I too often feel the relationship is rushed or forced. Not so with the book.
I've been reading so many in this genre that are typically Vampire or Were based... nice to see Magic take centerfold. Audible doesn't have any of these yet but if you liked this book or Molly Harpers might I suggest the Hex series by Linda Wisdom, Broken Heart Oklahoma series by Michele Bardsley, or Real Vampires Have Curves series (forgot the name) by Gerri Bartlett.
