Publisher's summary

Elbert Hubbard was that rarest of beings - a philosophical businessman. In 1895 he founded the Roycrofters, a community of artisans selling handcrafted goods. A prolific author, he was a favorite of Henry Ford, Theodore Roosevelt, and other great leaders of his time.

A Message to Garcia is Hubbard's most famous work. In it, he argues that the greatest hero is the man who simply does his job, completing the task no matter what the obstacles. Within Hubbard's lifetime, the message was reprinted more than any book besides the Bible. Today, it is required reading at US military academies.

This volume includes an introduction by Hubbard's personal assistant, Felix Shay, plus Hubbard's essays on "Mental Attitude", "Initiative", "Ability", and other qualities essential to success, making this the best available edition of the book.

Business Classic Must Read

We loved this book. Its a short read and is over before you know it. There are some gem quotes that will be put into the common place and be read regularly. If you are an employer or an employee read this! If you thought "millennial snowflakes" were a modern phenomenon, you will see that its just same ole human nature for this generation. Testing and proving are essential to human character as stated in this story.

A Marine Corps Commandant Reading book

Great read. Less then an hour. Good lessons.
Though this is seen as a military book under the Marine Corps Commandant reading list it has good moral lessons for any leader

Great Classic

Not loving the intro 2 chapters, however once it gets to the actual story as originally written, it is worth it. I have read this book a dozen or more times, however listening to it, I still pull more from it each go round. A simply timeless piece, reflecting the same issues then we fave today in our society and in business.

Narrator, voice quality

Narrator voice sounded not too clear, but was awesome. Definitely something for the self development community. Short story too

Simple but profound read

Hubbard's basic idea is that the best life is one in which a man cultivates virtue and acts on it. Two things develop our character: what we think and what we do. Hubbard correctly identifies several characteristics of a virtuous man (ex: sympathy and loyalty), and although his focus is the world of business, the attributes he associates with a prosperous life are universal.
