Publisher's summary

Of the five contenders for power, one is dead, another in disfavor, and still the wars rage as violently as ever, as alliances are made and broken. Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. But young Robb, of House Stark, still rules the North from the fortress of Riverrun. Robb plots against his despised Lannister enemies, even as they hold his sister hostage at King's Landing, the seat of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, making her way across a blood-drenched continent is the exiled queen, Daenerys, mistress of the only three dragons still left in the world....

But as opposing forces maneuver for the final titanic showdown, an army of barbaric wildlings arrives from the outermost line of civilization. In their vanguard is a horde of mythical Others, a supernatural army of the living dead whose animated corpses are unstoppable. As the future of the land hangs in the balance, no one will rest until the Seven Kingdoms have exploded in a veritable storm of swords....

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

Amazing

Not much to add to other reviews. The book has everything: honor, betrayal, intrigue, love, and great battles.

The narrator took a few minutes to get used to. Soon, I realized that he is using a different voice for each character. And that there are many, many characters. And that he always goes back to the correct voice for a given character throughout the long, long book. Stunning, really. That Mr. Dotrice can do this a any age, much less well into his 80s, is downright inspirational.

Good but Not Great

Only wish the narrator would remember the voices he created from book to book. makes it hard to picture the characters when their voices change half way through the story. Other than that, it is a wonderful story.

Epilouge is nuts!

The epilouge of this book is not in the TV series. Listen all the way through. It's totally worth it.

I can't remember the chapters, but about half way through the audio pops and skips a little. It's not so bad as to ruin the experience, but a little annoying.

Awesome book! Duh.

Another great listen!

Wow, the books just keep getting better. The plot thickens and Roy Dotrice delivers his best performance yet.
