About this listen

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision. I've spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: He left, and I didn't follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them. But now he's back.

I barely recognize the man he's become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid. Maybe if he'd come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I'd said yes all those years ago, he'd look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance. One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey brought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

A contemporary romance inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion

holy cow

I've had this on my Kindle for a while but heard that it was a rough read.......and oh my God was it! I finally listen to it because I'm a huge Lance Greenfield fan. He did a great job narrating. I'm glad I did because I'm not sure I'd finished it on the first try. The first 2/3 of the book is sad. Broken hearts, dying people, mean siblings...uugghh. It was hard to listen to. It does get better. Much much better. I'll definitely listen again. It's supposed to be a retelling of Persuasion. I've never read it. But this book is fabulous. Listen to it! Read it!!!

it begins very sadly but it's a strong story

I don't want to give the story away so I'll just say it hit home, and the performance was good I just feel like at some instances the female seemed detached to what she was expressing and I've heard other express the feelings of the characters better.

Decent, but not my favorite

I loved Wasted Words so much I thought I'd love this one too. BUT the main characters were so caught up in their own heads, and refused reason even when they saw it. The themes were real and raw and the overall story was really good... but the heroine's refusal to stand up for herself and the hero's sheer dumbassery was the source of FAR TOO MANY eyerolls. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would.

Entertaining, but...

This was a fairly enjoyable story except for the fact that the heroine was the type I have trouble stomaching- a real doormat. She lets everyone walk all over her and treat her terribly while she smiles placidly. The backstory of her and the hero’s past relationship didn’t endear him to me at first either, as he seemed so selfish and clueless to what he was asking from a 17 year old girl. I did appreciate parts of the story about her friendships with Rick and Sophie. Narration was fairly well done. I guess I just like more backbone in my heroines and more sense in my Heroes!

Just as good as reading the book!

The audio is as gut wrenching and heartfelt as reading the book. Loved! So much emotion!

I love a second chance romance. This book has a lot of emotional stuff going on and is actually very sad until the end! Wade & Elliot both have some issues for sure but in the end I was cheering for Elliot and her finally standing up for herself. I have to say she was kind of a doormat through parts of this book which I didn't really understand. The relationship everyone has with Wade's dad was beautiful, I wish we could have gotten to know him more. Another great Staci Hart book IMHO.

The Narration was great. Both of them were cast very well and really became their characters. Lance Greenfield really impressed me in this one because I've listened to him many many times and this is the first time I forgot it was him narrating while I was listening. Usually I always associate him with another book's characters no matter what book i'm listening to and this time he was Wade!

dragging out the story line

I was enveloped in the story at the beginning but about mid way I began to struggle to finish. The lost, assumingly unrequited love story got boring. Once his best friend arrived, I thought he would be more involved in helping find the romantic ending, but that hope fell flat. The narrator was wonderful and I will look for books that he narrated going forward.

A good listen 👍🏾

Although a bit over dramatic at times( a lot of teen drama vibes), the book was good overall. Be patient with the characters and the story will be sure to touch your heart.

Boring

Needs some character development. There was not any build up of Wade. Wade was not a very likeable character. The narrator read like he was whispering the entire book. Boring.
Elliot was a sweet character but also boring. Wade never really said anything substantial, constantly pining for Elliot and his unbearable love for her. Waste of my audible credit
