Publisher's summary

A pirate attack with only one survivor.... A conspiracy woven across the planets.... A vengeance that will not be denied.

When pirates seize the inter-planetary freighter owned by Brad Mantruso’s family, he is dumped into space. Saved from death by a passing Fleet ship, he is left with nothing but his skills, a gun, and a burning desire for vengeance.

Acquiring a ship, he reinvents himself as the mercenary Captain Brad Madrid. Before he can pursue his enemies, however, he finds himself dragged into an unexpected conflict when his ship's history draws new enemies to him.

Beset by pirates, slavers, and a woman who might be his savior—but definitely is a spy—it will take all of his skill, cunning, and new friends to claim his revenge!

Excellent first in new series

This may be Glynn Stewart’s best starter yet. Terrific narrative and a fine narration. Well done!

VERY GOOD. EXCELLENT START TO A NEW SERIES

Most enjoyable. The protagonist, Brad Madrid is a very strong character. Action packed and there are many tense moments. Well written by Glynn Stewart and Terry Mixon. Jeffrey Kafer as always performed well. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I managed to finish it

Far worse than Glynn Stewart's other books, unfortunately. It was lacking on details of the story and any semblance of character development.

The voice acting was hard to follow at times due to no differentiation between characters, and felt rushed.

Space fun

All fun a space kid can have with out the light sabers. A bit disappointed in the reader, if the story hadn't been so good. I would have given up. I'll move on to book 2 because I want to see where it goes.

Textbook military scifi novel, but that's ok

At some point, scifi lovers will have such a large library of material to compare new books to that it's rare that you experience something truly new. In this book, you certainly won't find anything that hasn't been done before. That's not a bad thing, though. This is the work of two experience scifi writers, narrated by an equally experienced narrator. It's good, it's enjoyable, and it's fast pace enough that it ends up focusing on the story, not reiterating old concepts that you've seen a hundred times before. With the story concluding (in theory, although Mr. Stewart has posted some things on his FB page that makes you wonder) in book two, the investment here is well worth what it gives you in return.

The Punisher in space

Ok it is less brutal but at its core this is a superhero story with a vengeance twist.

Well written and quite enjoyable but feeling quite rushed. 7 hours playtime and 2 in world month is a bit short for the character to go from green young adult to hardened, successful mercenary captain. That is less noticeable while the story is moving forward at a brisk pace but whenever there is a breather the story feels trite and predictable. Also the final acct is more of a wimper than a crescendo partially because compared to the vivid fight scenes the space action feels very detached, it lacks stakes to add and being the first in a series the resolution feels to small to be satisfying but too big to make me demand more.

Myself, I'll probable read more of the series in the future, but right now I am good.

Worst fight scene ever

...in the very first chapter. I forget what the body count was, but the scariest pirates in the galaxy don't get that way by coming two by two through the airlock to be meekly slaughtered by a couple of teenagers .

I am getting my money back.

Enjoyable Series so far... but

I like the characters and action scenes. The story line is interesting. But to listen to (or read) the entire series you pay a boat-load of money. The 'books' are shorter than most normal books, which is the new trend since 'The Green Mile' came out in chapters-only back in the 1990s, so you end up paying two or three times as much for a full-length book. In the industry this is known as Green-mile-ling a series that really should have longer "books" and fewer of them. They stretch out a series so you pay three times as much.
