Story
Owen Wister’s The Virginian pre-dates the classic novels of Zane Grey and Max Brand and is considered by many to be the original Western. Dedicated to Wister’s friend and fellow outdoorsman Theodore Roosevelt, this timeless tale almost single-handedly established the cowboy archetype in literature. A quiet, noble foreman of a Wyoming cattle ranch in the 1870s, the Virginian falls for pretty schoolteacher Molly Wood. But when a rival suitor challenges his honor, the Virginian struggles to make his beloved Molly understand the harsh justice of the West.

A young gunslinger is changed for the better by meeting a beautiful woman. A classic range-war Western, this novel features that powerful, romantic, strangely compelling vision of the American West for which L'Amour's fiction is known. In the author's words, "It was a land where nothing was small, nothing was simple. Everything, the lives of men and the stories they told, ran to extremes."

In the days of the frontier West, it was not unusual for desperadoes and fugitives from justice to seemingly disappear from the face of the earth. Shadow on the Trail by Zane Grey, one of the best-selling authors of all time, is the story of one such man who returned to reestablish himself in a law-abiding society. In Texas, young bank robber Wade Holden, once the toughest, fastest trigger man in the notorious Simm Bell gang, makes a promise to his dying mentor that he will go straight. Story
In this romantic and raw adventure set in the untamed wilderness of Wyoming of 1886, an anonymous college graduate ventures out west where he encounters gun fights, lynching, cattle rustlers, high-stake poker games, Indian attacks, and a brave, honest and imposing cowboy known simply as the Virginian. Presented as the archetypal, ideal hero of the "western" genre (which was novelized for the very first time in this same book), the Virginian, a foreman at Shiloh Ranch, carries a strong sense of justice.

Publisher's summary
When Kirsten South’s once-wealthy father suddenly passed away, she found he had gone broke, leaving her nothing but a profitless ranch.
Fresh from an East-Coast finishing school, Kirsten set herself a task of fantastic difficulty - managing, quite without experience, a ranch in Arizona. It was the only asset she had left. That, and her hunger for independence, impelled her to make a go of it. Finding that her manager had let the ranch slide, Kirsten discharged him leaving a staff of her maid, a cook, four cowboys and a new arrival: a dirty, ragged, bearded derelict cowpoke named Sundown.
The endless work and monotony was broken by the call of Sam Boston, a real estate broker who glibly told Kirsten he had brought a buyer for the ranch. Kirsten told him in no uncertain terms that she would not sell - but as they were leaving, she heard them grimly declare that they would “have to put on the pressure”.
One night the hay was deliberately burned, and the next morning three of her five hands quit, leaving only Ramon and the taciturn Sundown to lighten Kirsten’s otherwise impossible workload. Ramon informed her that a stranger had offered all of them money to quit their jobs. Only he and Sundown had refused.
Kirsten set out for Phoenix at once to hire more ranch hands and see her banker. Losing her way among her vast acreage, Kirsten stumbled on a group of men rustling her cattle. Creeping nearer to see who the men were, Kirsten had no idea that she was about to be plunged into the most terrifying experience of her life. Nor did Sundown, riding the fence to check for breaks where the cattle might slip through, realize that his façade as a man who needed no one and nothing was about to be cracked. Or that he would soon be called on to exercise his legendary skill with a six-shooter - a skill he had come to despise - when he and Kirsten waged the strangest showdown the west had ever seen.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

The Bookworm Box is proud to present Two More Days, our second anthology installment. Much like the first installment, Two More Days is an exciting and unique listening experience with contributions from several of our charity's featured authors. Each author was given the same first sentence. Where they took that sentence was completely up to them.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Fantastic!
What an awesome story! It was full of adventure and action. A woman who was not only smart but brave beyond measure. The narrator was very talented and drew me right in the story with the characters.

Kick##s Heroine
I love books where the heroine is tough, intelligent, driven, ambitious and is not intimated. Kirsten South arrives in Arizona from New York to claim the only property left to her by her late father. She grew up with wealth and education so arriving on the ranch to discover not even indoor plumbing is a rude awakening. She is determined to make a success regardless of whom or what stands in her way. Her antihero is Sundown, a cowboy with a negative and nasty attitude. She is determined to right the wrongs with him no matter what she must do. Great western. The narrator did a fabulous job of voicing the characters.

corrupt jealousy
Against all odds and the machinations of a greedy ex employee, strength, truth, honesty, and hard work and perseverance pay off. What a twisted man's world!!!! I enjoyed the journey. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

Nice female lead
It’s Kristen vs Sundown, she’s an honest, hard-working woman, and he’s a gun hand with a bad attitude. This is not a face off. You normally see in westerns. Normally, when you have a capable woman versus a tough guy, it’s played for comedy. Think of pale face with Bob, Hope or the shakiest gun in the West with Don Knotts.
This book isn’t played for laughs, it’s played for keeps. This is a solid shorter story that’s just over five hours so it’s good for a long drive or having a long wait somewhere to pass the time.
