About this listen

Maddie.

I’m a sucker for nerds. So a biology professor who wears geeky ties and doesn’t realize how hot he is, puts every part of my body on high alert. It also means I’m failing his class. There’s only one way to get him out of my head so I can focus. Seduce him.

Turns out that boyish innocence isn’t an act, and while Dr. Reid Emerson is a genius, there are many things he’s never learned. His eagerness to catch up takes my breath away. Will he let me be the one to teach him?

Reid.

Maddie Evans reminds me of every popular guy I’ve ever known: Charming, persuasive, and used to getting exactly what he wants. But there’s a part of me — a part tired of being the only inexperienced person on campus — that doesn’t care. A flash of skin during our study sessions sparks a fire I can’t put out. I want Maddie. And I want him to teach me...everything.

We strike a deal that has me questioning my sanity, my ethics, and everything I ever believed in. I can’t resist him but being together is risky. Maddie could lose his spot in grad school, and I could lose the thing that keeps me going every day. Teaching.

Is this experiment doomed to fail or together can we pass the ultimate test of love and sacrifice?

My (Not So) Slutty Professor is a mm romance that involves cocky students, shy professors, meddling best friends, and lots and lots of ice cream. It is the first book in the My (Not So) Serious University series. It can be listened to on its own or as part of the series and has a HEA.

Cute and Romantic

I must confess based on the title and description I expected something more explicit and R rated. I mean a hot professor and a college student in need of "extra credit"? That screams smut. So I was rather taken back by the sweetness of it all. Socially awkward professor has a crush on his handsome, confident student. They inadvertently begin to court and nothing sexy actually happens until very late into the novel. This book completely focused on character development and the MC's helping one another with personal demons. They ought to change the title to something more appropriate like, "A Virgin Professor's Guide to Dating".

Low angst listen

A sweet opposites attract teacher/student romance. Maddie is a commitment phobe college student and Reid is a virgin child genius professor. They are both extremely drawn to each other but try to fight their attraction due to Maddie being a current student of Reid’s but who can fight true love forever? The story is pretty low angst and there are some fun side characters. The narrator has fun with this story but I did have trouble sometime differentiating who was speaking and wished he had done more to make it clearer. HEA guaranteed listen. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this audiobook.

An enjoyable, sweet story!

Both characters were great! I adored Reid, this clueless, nerdy, introvert who, being a genius, has been in the adult world way to soon, and has never had the time and possibility to experience growing up as a “normal” kid and teenager. Too young to fit with the adults, and too inexperienced in social interactions and too intelligent to fit with people his own age, he has retreated into himself and become a sort of a hermit.
Maddie, one of his students, though they are roughly the same age, has a problem.. he is so attracted to his Professor he cannot concentrate and his falling behind in his class…
A mutually beneficially agreement leads them to become closer and closer, and between hiding, exposure threats and some fun, meddling best friends, the book is a whirlwind of sweetness and fun!

A+

This was an A+ read for me. Precious, beautiful, clueless Professor Emerson was so lovable. And when we all got to see under Maddie’s facade, I found him lovable as well. Their quirks and anxieties and insecurities were endearing and, quite frankly, relatable. I enjoyed that even though they would sometimes jump to wrong conclusions in their minds, they’d end up really thinking about the other, who they really were and what they were really like, and then didn’t let it totally get in their way or tear them apart. What did end up threatening to tear them apart they handled fairly well. I just wish there was a better explanation when it came to Prof. Oliver. Really great read, jumping right into the next book!

Kevin Earlywine did alright. However, he reminded me of the Vanessa Bayer character from SNL’s Weekend Update. She plays Laura Parsons, a young Disney actress being a young newscaster. His enunciations and the way he ends his sentences…just no. But, the decision to give Gal a very prominent New York accent was awesome.

loved this!

I really enjoyed the audio of this! The narrator was new to me but I liked the way he did the characters. The premise of the book is fun and interesting. I love a good teacher/student and nerd/jock book and opposites attract type tropes. Reid is a professor with a high IQ but zero social skills. He finds himself entranced by him and they have a slow build romance. Maddie is interesting. He is a straight-A student who definitely has OCD but is not afraid to go after what he wants ( and he wants Reid!). They have great chemistry. Although it is fun to read and light in the beginning there is some angst and conflict in the middle of the story but that seems to resolve itself. I was glad the last third of the book was happy and more to my liking. This was a fun listen and I cant wait to get the second one on audio!

Overly sweet - and not necessarily in a good way

Now that's not to say it wasn't good. It was an okay start to a series I intend to continue reading. For me, Reid and Maddie were not terribly relatable and a bit challenging to like. They both bounced like pinballs and despite all their efforts in reading and understanding social queues, failed to communicate some of the simplest things. Some of their interactions were cute, and some were cringy but the references in places (eg Doctor Who) made me smile. Their besties were ... okay? Aggressively supportive and equally intrusive.

Overall, the story was okay. There was a lot of repetition of facts, like how smart Reid was, how young he was, how smart he was, and how young he was, etc. My point is that yeah, okay, he's a genius who graduated high school at a very young age and it was covered fairly early on in the story. Reid seemed to fall back on that detail and bring it up over and over and over, through dialogue and his inner monologue. It was moments like that that took me out of the story.

The narration was a bit off, as well. The voice for Gal and Professor Oliver were perhaps the only consistent voices used. Maddie's and Reid's voices kept shifting, and then the monologue between the dialogue itself was a tossup. I spent a good portion of each chapter mentally backtracking to make sure I knew who was meant to be talking.

I love it

Super adorable story about the nerdy professor and the charming student. It was well written and laid out. Love the spin that was added to give them a challenge even more than just figuring out their relationship. I also enjoyed how each of the MCs had their own insecurities to work through. I will read this one again!

Updated for audio:
I knew I would want to come back to this story, so given the chance to listen to it, I couldn't pass it up. The story was just as good as the first time. And Kevin Earlywine did a great job of narrating it. Although his voices of the main characters was well done, I was also impressed by his portrayal of the female characters in this story as well. Again, I'll be back!
