Simon can only watch, helpless, as his family is killed and his friends captured by enemy Travelers—men and women who can summon mystical powers from otherworldly Territories. To top it off, another young man from Simon's village discovers that he's a savior prophesied to destroy evil and save the realm.

Prophecy has nothing to say about Simon. He has no special powers, no magical weapons, and no guarantee that he'll survive. But he sets off anyway, alone, to gain the power he needs to oppose the Travelers and topple their ruthless Overlord. It may not be his destiny, but Simon's determined to rescue his fellow villagers from certain death.

Because who cares about prophecy, really?

I liked the concept of Travelers. I liked the magic and main character. The deep flaws in all the characters and misunderstandings. Quite fun.
The one thing I didn't like was how the main character is dumped on all the time and when others are in the same situation it's easy for them to get power with the explanation "sorry MC we don't like poor people and the talentless, we helped these other characters no problem when we offer you only scorn"
I would recommend.

Good fantasy

I enjoyed thoroughly, quick simple read. Recently completed a mind numbing book so complex you couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. The book was light.

Enjoyable

I really like this kind of story it had a different magical system different characters that were honest and flawed at the same time. It was just a really nice change of change of pace story with a great magical system.

a different story

I read the reviews before I started this book. I was getting ready to hate the mc and give this a bad review. But honestly I think I read a different book. Yes Simon wished he had the power of the traveler but to defend his people. Alan is the A-hole of the story and I tried my hardest to hear his part. But man was it boring to me I decided. And Simon’s part was way more enjoyable. I could see why Simon did what he did. Yes he is immature to things. But he’s a child still. I’m getting ready to hear the second part. I hope it’s good as this one.

Must’ve read a different story.

Travis Baldree’s narration of Will Wight’s story and world is absolutely fantastic. I love the world and characters Wight has created and how they’ve grabbed me and thrust so many feelings into me. The story kept me interested and pondering what would happen next almost every minute of every chapter.

Fantastic
