Publisher's summary

He's the one guy she swore she'd never fall for.

Harlow Hayes loves water. In its liquid form. The chlorinated kind she swims in. The perennial droplets soaking her adopted hometown. The waves she ventures out on to observe the ocean.

Water, in its frozen state, holds no appeal to her. That's not the only—or most divisive—difference between her and Conor Hart. The arrogant, arresting captain of Holt University's hockey team spends every second not picking fights or partying atop a sheet of it.

Plenty of girls fall for the charming lines and that cocky smirk. Harlow knows better. Knows more.

The fuel for the fury that makes him such a dominant force on the ice. The reason he ignores her as resolutely as she pretends he doesn't exist. The history they share but didn't write.

Knowledge meant to ensure he's the one guy she could never—would never—like, much less love.

Famous last words.

One of my favorites!

So excited to see more CW Farnsworth books coming to Audible. She is an auto-purchase with me and rarely disappoints. To have my favorite books on Audible is a huge plus. I would love to see a book with Landon. The amount of family dysfunction with Conor would provide an interesting backstory for his own love story. Harlow & Conor have history but not of their own making. Once they take a chance moment to speak, they forget the prejudices they have against one another. They realize they have a connection beyond the negative one that has kept them from speaking to each other. Not an instalove, but they form a deeper connection. I love the way the author weaves a story grounded in reality. The performance was great, the male voice could sound like he was reading a newspaper reporting news every now and then. But overall a great listen!

The audio was not good

I didn’t love or hate the narrators but there was a wired beeping in the background through a majority of the book making it so hard to listen to.

Amazing story line but..

Let me start out saying the story itself was amazing. I really enjoyed it! And Ada Sinclair is amazing as always! But I struggled getting through Tyler Donne parts.. his voice just.. doesn’t seem to have enough emotion to it. He had the same tone during 95% of the story. Including the steamy scenes which was very frustrating! It felt like he was rushed through it and he was pissed about it. I almost bought bought the book to finish it myself but seeing as I bought it to listen to at work, I couldn’t do that.. I hope his tone isn’t like that for every book..

Good story

I thought the angst was realistic and not overdone... no misunderstandings and I liked that the strife was really not theirs and love wins over loyalty to family.. as it does sometimes

I really enjoyed this angsty story that had some family drama at play

I saw reviews from people who didn’t like Tyler Dionne’s narration but I liked it. He’s a tenor and not a baritone, so what? I thought both narrators were great.

The story includes some complex family drama that adds challenges to the relationship between the main characters. They had a strong attraction to each other and both were willing to learn about each other by sharing fun experiences that took them out of their comfort zones.

Over time the longstanding family drama was resolved after so much time and it resulted in a great ending for the couple.

Loved this!

This was the first hockey romance I've ever enjoyed. It was picked as a book club read and I must admit that I was dreading it... But color me pleasantly surprised! I loved every minute of it!

love C.W Farnsworth’s work!!

hated the male narrator. he sounded like 45 year old man and it pulled me out of the story telling.
but i loved the story regardless and the female narrator saved a lot of it. C.W Farnsworth is an amazing writer and i love her stuff

Interesting

This story was so good. I loved the way it flowed, but I hated the fact that a lot of parts seemed skipped over and just kinda put in to plug in the holes. The banter between Connor and his teammates also seemed very juvenile, but the female narrator I LOVED. Not only her voice (partly because she reminded me of Dakota Johnson) but the way she made the character feel alive. It really was a good storyline

Still my guilty pleasure ....

CW Farnsworth remains my secret guilty pleasure. She is sneaky chocolate and French champagne. Because she has so few Audiobooks I have to stretch them out into small doses and almost treat myself.

I read her as my palate cleanser, my top author. This story was a little different, a little angsty, a but gritty. It shows her breadth as a writer. It didn’t leave me feeling wrung out or raw as some others do

I liked this story but found it was a little sad and a little tortured. The cause of the rift between them and how that serves as a dividing line in the story is an interesting challenge. The story is more raw than her others.

The male reader is pretty stilted and lacks inflection. The female reader is pretty darn good and is excellent.

No spoilers below but there is some explanation to assist the reader. The story was really good and had some nice edges. There is a good deal of spice / sex / steam.

The story revisits an old trope (friends-with-benefits to love) but brings a different angle. He falls hard and is rusted on to his love for her and she is the kryptonite.

The sub-plots include “tells” that speak to the overall story including family cross-over that introduces complexity to the narrative.

Overall I finished the book feeling a little drawn from the tension but in a good way rather than feeling wrung out

Another AMAZING read

Love it!

This was such a good story! The book that got me hooked on every single book she's written. The way the relationship between Harlow and Conor grew and developed was absolute perfection!

Narration was excellent for both narrators. I enjoyed it very much!
