getting into more litrpg after dungeon crawler call I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the guy who wrote Bastion has done such an amazing job.

Better than Bastion

I like Bastion. I'd give it a strong 6.5/10, but I never "loved" Bastion like others seem too. This however, it's next level definitely in my top 10, and my favorite book in months. so excited to read the next 2.

Truly a great story

I am not a fan of Lit RPG books. The constant Stat updates are annoying to me. But this book finds the right balance. The story is engaging. The characters are smart, funny, and flawed. They grow over time and don't act stupid for just dramatic moments and plot devices. Then the RPG parts are well thought out and consistent. I enjoyed those parts of the book and how they were interwoven into the whole of the story. Very very good. This is Dean Kootz meets Aleron Kong. I enjoyed this first book and I'm on to the next. Tom Taylorson was excellent as the narrator as well. Great distinctive voices for each character. Easy to follow along with such a big dynamic cast. I will be looking for more of his narration. Give this book a listen.

mad and glad

So I'm gonna be honest. Unfortunately, this book came out right as I was going through burnout and I was not able to enjoy it when at first hit the shelves. I'm very happy now that with the third book coming out. I can binge all 3 because this story is amazing. I would love to say that there is an open arching plot, but to be honest. It's very simple and very clean and very easy to get behind. The main character is relateable. The story makes sense and while a lot of the character development happens in the background, it is very explicit and keeps you on your toes. If you're looking for a wounded old man main character you found the perfect one.
