Publisher's summary

Scorio will rise from the ashes to conquer the 10 layers of hell.

Reborn without memories, Scorio learns that he is a Great Soul, a legendary defender of the ancient city of Bastion. That within the hallowed halls of the Academy and under the stern eyes of the underworld’s greatest instructors he will enjoy enormous privilege, rediscover unique and wondrous powers, and one day return to the millennium-old battle against their infernal foes.

Until he is betrayed. Singled out and sentenced to die for crimes he can't remember, Scorio is hurled to his doom - and forgotten.

But from even the dimmest spark an inferno may one day rage.

Clawing his way back from oblivion, Scorio vows to return to the Academy at any cost. To emerge from the ruins and within those golden walls defeat his elite classmates in a quest to ascend the ranks and change the course of history. For only then will he learn about his forgotten past and why his enemies have rightly feared him since the day he was reborn.

Great Cradle/ Iron Prince vibes!

This is a great listen! It takes a little bit to get going but wonderful. Nick Podehl dies a great job with all the voices. It has elements that remind me of Cradle. Can't wait for the continuation.

Great start to a new series

Loved the book - good pacing and a huge installment to kick it off at 35+ hours of story. Really looking forward to the next one!

Chewy, Gritty Goodness and 40 hrs Well-Spent

I hold Bryce O’Connor in high esteem - Iron Prince has been my favorite book since Jim Butcher’s Double Dresden 2 years ago. When Bryce put Bastion on his Patreon and lauded it’s content, I bought it the same day. Bryce did not lie - Bastion has joined Iron Prince among my favorites: here’s why -
Every story starts with a premise. This story begins with an epic screwing of the main character and although you want to root for him, such is his past that you immediately question whether he is worth your investment. Over the next 800+ pages, you continually question that. Decisions this character makes frustrate you - infuriate you, even. The answer to his problems seems so obvious, yet again and again he pisses you off and does something that is not only not the best choice, but in many cases frankly asinine. I got to one part of this book where I became so frustrated that I almost put it down - not because the book wasn’t being amazingly crafted, but because the character just made you want to smack him upside his head. Phil does this to you, and then he wraps up the story arc so magnificently that every frustration you had settles in, you understand, and appreciate the sheer genius it took to write it in that way and still end up making perfect sense. Hats off, Mr. Tucker - never have I been so enjoyably aggravated. If you enjoy superb character development, innovative magic systems and twisty writing that satisfies both sweet and sour palates, you must listen to this book. Nick Podehl is masterful as always, and he’s been given a magnificent canvas upon which to ply his craft. 5 stars only due to 5 being the most I can give -

Great story

This is like a combination of harry potter, Constantine, and city of ember. Not quite a lit rpg but getting close. It really draws you in.

Great story but

I like the underdog story line we're the MC is forced to take his own measures to gain more power. But to be honest the way he throws himself into idiotic situations is no realistic in any type of measure. He acts more like a 12 year old (if not younger) than what he's supposed age are to act like. It is infuriating to say the least. Great story, detrimentally stupid MC.

Amazing

Well written and masterfully spoken, its been a while since I listened to a story that had me so invested. the focus on characters that made me think of Sanderson's style of times. The darkly fantastical world, mysterious and constantly surprising me in the depth that the author extruded from it. I loved every minute of it and cant wait to start in on the second.

EXCELLENT

I was skeptical of this book when I first read the description. It was not something that I generally would read or listen to. But as soon as I listened to the intro it captured my attention abs I loved it more and more as I listened. I can't wait for the next one to come out. If you are skeptical at all I recommend that you give this book a try. I garentee you will not regret it.
