The Great Calamity has returned, destroying all in his wake. Reeling from the destruction of King's Point and the death of his uncle, Elyon Daecar makes at once for Varinar to discern the state of the city. What he finds gives him small cause for hope. Through the spreading darkness, thin shards of light remain. They must act quickly lest they close forever. Saska's time in Aram has run out. Dragons Riders: The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs. But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war. This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip.

Publisher's summary
The fetters of fate are binding. Neither man nor god can break them.
After the fall of the great Vandarian fortress of Dragon's Bane, Elyon Daecar gathers his army in the Lakelands to the north. They have suffered a great defeat. Heroes and friends have fallen. Yet, with the Windblade in his grasp, Elyon will not yield. From east to west and north to south, he will take the fight to the enemy and soar.
After finally meeting with her grandmother in Aram, Saska—born of Light and Steel and Sea—has discovered the truth of her sire… and the great fate that now awaits her. It is much to place upon her shoulders. Much to expect of one so young. Ahead of her lies a great journey, and a great challenge… yet she needn't face it alone.
The Shadow Order is no more. Jonik, Ghost of the Shadowfort, has unearthed the terrible truth of its founding. As his company begins to disband, he finds himself stranded, battling with his demons. The darkness gathers around him, and he must fight to stay in the light. If he fails, he will fall… to the ruin of all.
Across the north, the dragons swarm, sent forth by the will of Agarath. In the days to come, their lord and master will show his face. A face of calamity and dread to cover all the land in shadow. If the darkness is to be repelled, the forces of light must rise up to meet it. From the pits of the earth, ancient creatures are coming forth as the world begins to return to one of gods… and monsters.

Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

One hundred years ago, the Eternals, 13 men and women closer to gods than mortals, stood against the greatest threat the world had ever faced. They died. All save for one who managed to flee with the enemy leader’s weapon, a cursed blade of incredible power. This is a battle he fights alone, for after they defeated the Eternals, the enemy used their magic to pose as their conquered opponents, taking over rule of the world in their stead. For the last 100 years, the people have believed that the legendary Eternals triumphed, that they are safe. Only the wanderer knows the truth .

Getting assassinated sucks. Just ask Thomas, a man from Earth who made a few too many enemies. Or you could ask Lucian, the crown prince of another world who met a similar fate. But if you were to ask either of them, then you'd actually be asking the same man, as Thomas' soul was crammed into Lucian's body during their simultaneous assassinations. The Goddess who reincarnated him didn't do it for free, though. She tasked Lucian with the simple quest of saving the Almekian Kingdom from the brink of collapse.

The characters. Some I thought were heinous, but over time I’ve seen some redeeming qualities.
One it my absolute favorite fantasy series. It combines everything I love. Expansive world building, compelling characters, majestic creatures and artifacts of power. The only question I have is how everyone stays so well informed on what transpires across what I believe to be great distances. It does however serve to keep the story progressing at a good pace can’t wait for the next book.
