A heartfelt and hilarious collection of essays from the comedian and entertainer known for voicing Olaf in the phenomenon Disney franchise of Frozen, and for his award-winning turn as Elder Cunningham in the Broadway smash hit The Book of Mormon.

For the first and possibly last time, Josh Gad dives into a wide array of personal topics: the lasting impact of his parents’ divorce; how he struggled with weight and self-image; his first big break; how everyone was sure his most successful ventures (both on the big screen and the stage) would fail; his take on fatherhood, and so much more. This trip down the rabbit hole of overly personal stories will distract readers from climate change, the downward descent of democracy in Western civilization, and the existential threat that AI poses to Drake’s music—with never-before-seen photos and few-to-no spelling errors.

Whether you know him from Disney or Broadway, YouTube, the silver screen, or not at all, one fact remains: Josh’s work never fails to bring people together (as long as they’re alive.) His delightful debut, written in the tradition of Amy Poehler, Jim Gaffigan, and Mindy Kaling, reminds us to keep going, even when the chips and doubters are stacked against you.

Critic reviews

"Whether you know actor/singer Josh Gad from THE BOOK OF MORMON (Elder Arnold Cunningham) or FROZEN (Olaf), you’ll recognize his voice as he narrates his memoir. With great stories about his worklife and some enjoyable cameos by Sacha Baron Cohen, Mel Brooks, and Ron Howard, this audiobook offers a lot of entertainment. In a clear timbre and a melodic intonation, Gad proves his gift for voice work."

This is the first time that I have ever gotten an audiobook (mainly because Audible was offering a free audiobook by singing up for a free trial of their premium services, thanks Audible!). I have been following Disney Legend Josh Gad’s career since ”Frozen” came out but I never imagined how inspiring and relatable he would be in this tell-some. Visiting his TV and film career well before he released his tell-some has helped me create a connection to the artistry of Josh Gad, his struggles, ambitions, hopes, fears and everything in between. I listen to this audiobook as I read the printed version for a more dynamic and immersed experience. When I started reading the actual book (before I got the audiobook), I could hear Josh‘s voice in the words that he wrote. But it wasn’t until I actually started listening to the audiobook that it made all the difference in hearing and feeling his pain and love in a rollercoaster of emotions, that made me feel like I can relate to his experiences, even if my background is not musical theater or speech and debate (though, I will say I do love musical theater and am proficient in public speaking). Nevertheless, I was indulged by Josh‘s life experiences from his own voice and hope that one day, he knows how much I deeply admire him now more than ever. PS: I was lucky enough to see him on Broadway on “Guttenberg! The Musical!” and have met him in person in January 2025 for his book tour. And, Josh, if you’re actually reading this, thank you so much!

I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time. I both laughed and cried. Josh Gad has both a life with hardships and blessings. Through his words, we learn how to embrace life and take risks, love without judgement, appreciate people in your circle, and create a wonderful life for yourself through determination and grit. We also get to hear some of the inside happenings of his theater, TV and film career. Very funny stuff! I highly recommend this book as your next read, or better yet... listen.
