I can't take it anymore. This curse, this undead curse… It makes it so every moment is nothing but pure torment.

I need to keep busy, to take my mind off of it and alleviate the pain. More than that, I need to find a way to rebuild my powers after I was tricked by my own allies, slain, and reborn.

I can't return to the human lands yet. The pact of non-aggression still stands. This leads me to accept a contract that will bring me to the land of the Witch Elves. A place where great dangers lurk—demons and abominations— but also tremendous power.

In those ruins lays a weapon that allows the wielder to channel his discordance right into it to gain tremendous attacks and abilities. That blade is only one among a plethora of game-changing artifacts… That might very well be the key to my ascension.

Because yes, the Cult of the Veil may be growing stronger, with new followers joining the ranks every day, and I may be starting to feel their worship empowering me… But if I am to climb my way up to actual godhood, I will need much more than a small congregation. I will need to capture cities and build temples and altars to boost my numbers. And for that, I will need every edge I can get.

With so many threats lurking around the corner, I have no choice. Becoming the Godking may be the only true option I have to ensure my survival in the long run.

Excellent series

This was an excellent series, one focusing on the anti-hero. Very good adherence to Lit RPG basics EVEN THOUGH no stats. I rarely like it when stats are missing but this one made it work and the performance of the narrator I think helped.

Great story!

Great story and an even better narrator. The story was interesting with it's anti-hero theme. I have to say again that the narrator did a fantastic job. I have no complaints and thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Amazing

Better than book1, but not as good as book2. The story did have some slow parts, but the last three hours made up for it. Narration was great as usual. I think Daniel W has definitely moved up to my third favorite narrator.

Great World Building

Overall the book was great! Kinda slow in the middle but the pace towards the end made events fly by! I can't wait for the next book!

Mixed feelings

The world building was great. The pacing was slower at first then seemingly rushed later. The character changed in ways I did not entirely enjoy. Certain characters made choices I found to be out of character or at least not ready to make that early in their development. The narration was fantastic.

Spoiler:

I had hoped the author would maintain a more villainous MC instead of moving away from the idea in favor of a played out anti-hero type. Despite enjoying the universe the author created, the evolution of the character has fallen away with what originally captivated me about this series in the first book. I’ll likely finish the series out, but it really disappoints me that the MC does not follow his original principles. In my opinion, the ascension to divinity would be much more enticing if he maintained evil alignment instead deviating to a neutral one. There are far too few villain led stories to partake in and way too many anti-heroes with dark powers who have good or neutral paths in the Lit-RPG genre.

Some good ideas but riddled with issues

I'll start by listing the good stuff, followed by the many, many shortcomings of this book.

--THE GOOD--
1. I appreciate the effort to factor in a realistic flow of time, where important events take place over the course of weeks and several months, instead of the typical days or a few weeks that we see in many other books of this genre.

2. I enjoyed how the MC's mindset keeps slowly shifting from a Chaotically Evil Revenant to someone who's at the crossroads between Order and Evil. The transition makes sense within the context of the story and also makes for a more interesting and relatable character, as opposed to someone who simply murders anyone who opposes him.

3. The MC finally gets some cool armor that come with some awesome stats/skills and set bonuses. It would have been a nice added touch if there had been a way for the MC to re-colour it, as the idea of a Chaotic Neutral Revenant wearing a full set of golden armor (that somehow suddenly changes in coloration to amber by the end of the book) is somewhat jarring.

4. Ana/Anna is a great support character whose development is continuous from books 1 to 3, and the counsel she offers to the MC is sensical and always useful. I only wish that she had more of an active role within the story as her potential feels a little wasted.

5. Great voice narration as always!

--THE BAD--
1. SO MANY UNUSED SPELLS/ABILITIES!! The MC unlocks a precognition combat ability in the previous books that he maybe only uses once throughout this entire book! There were SO MANY instances where it would have been extremely useful, but it's like he forgot he had it...either that or the author realized too late that he had given his MC an overpowered ability that would have trivialized every fight and stopped mentioning it in the hopes that his readers would forget...Such lazy, sloppy writing...
The same can be said for his Spectral form which he uses once, maybe twice throughout the entire book when it would have been helpful in so many situations...
There are also five powerful spells (fear, nausea, blinding, and two others) that the Revenant learns towards the end of book two, courtesy of his Necromancer minion, which HE'S NEVER USED!!
He also stops using most of his Revenant abilities once he gets his OP sword, even though he specifically unlocks a sword skill that allows him to use said Revenant skills while using his blade...

2. Several things stop making any kind of sense, such as his fight with the Bishop where his new armor skill prevents him from being grabbed, but not ten seconds later he still gets grabbed by said boss and tossed away without any kind of explanation...wtf...
Also once he gets his new fireball spell and uses it, it's described as employing "explosive magic", a new type of magic that never gets explained but we're just supposed to just roll with it...
Furthermore, the Revenant MC purchases an armor chest piece skill that enables him to be aware of anyone within his surroundings at all times, and yet he's surprised when the friar and his ilk appear behind him while in the Witch Elf city, as if his unlocked skill was never there....

3. Two plot points that go nowhere: shortly after teaming up with the illusion mage in the Witch Elf city, he and his inner demon make a bet based on whether or not the mage will betray them. If the Revenant MC wins the bet, which he does, his demon will unlock further eye augmentations for him, but this never happens. It's as if the bet/bargain never took place and we as the audience are supposed to forget it ever happened due to inconsistent, sloppy writing.

Second, at the end of the previous book the MC is betrayed and royally shafted by Peter the Gravedigger and his cohorts, but he's only mentioned ONCE in passing here, and he somehow magically disappears and is never seen nor heard from again. LAME! For a being whose very existence is based upon revenge you'd think the MC would have hunted Peter down and exacted bloody vengeance, but noooo, instead we're robbed of a potentially satisfying end to Peter The Betrayer.
I mean, can you imagine the MC dumping Peter the Gravedigger's (name of his class) corpse into a grave while uttering a pun such as "and here now lies Peter the Gravedigger, whose grave has finally been dug" or some such. xD

4. Several incongruities that make no sense within this dark fantasy story: as the MC is slowly paving his way towards Godhood, he mentions a "divine pathway to the Cosmos" which is called "a portfolio". ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! What's next, a 'resume' step towards Godhood, presented in PowerPoint format?! What terrible wording!
The same can be said when the MC later uses the term "calculator"....WTH man...there is NO technology whatsoever within the context of these books, but "calculator" somehow is supposed to make sense and fit within the dark fantasy theme?! UGH.

5. And finally, that AI voice whenever the MC's stats/new abilities come up is still jarring as hell and needs to go, or at the very least the tone needs to be modified.

It's really too bad as I was enjoying the series up until this book, but the third book has SO MANY issues that would have benefitted from further editing. I'll be abandoning the series and moving on to more consistent storytelling.

Is this whole series gonna be the same

Dude fights eris all the time and lets him go and comes back to bite him and again he comes back…. Like move one bro this coulda been a great series but its the same thing every book will not continue Do not get
