London. A city drowning in fog. Amid that fog, a man with no name dies above a strange junkshop. Threads of mist and intrigue weave around a court case with no resolution, linking great country houses with the lowest slum in the city, mingling the high-born with a boy who sweeps the filthy streets, enshrouding devious plots and sudden murder, bringing together two extraordinary women – Lady Dedlock and Esther Summerson - who seem to have nothing whatsoever in common but who will find themselves inextricably linked.

Audible's trilogy of Dickens dramatizations, executive produced by Sam Mendes, and with a new original score by Dan Gillespie-Sells, concludes with the most dramatic and atmospheric yet, starring Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Ambika Mod (One Day), Mackenzie Crook (The Office) and Mark Strong (Kingsman).

As an audio recording and performance the audio book is outstanding. As listeners, it is too easy to get lost in the focus of the story and the main characters. I applaud the director’s adaptation to avoid including ALL of the minor characters.
Historically, we understand that Dickens was paid by the word and therefore stretched out the story with many characters and subplot elements to increase the overall word count.

I would read it again. The store line was impaling. I felt like I was living in the story.

I liked the story. Had a hard time putting it down..

The plot was amazing but perhaps if it was a television series or physical reading, I would have enjoyed it more. There was exposition I thought unnecessary to the story and so many dramatic pauses that didn’t translate well in an Audio book. That being said the narrators all dis quite well. Also the kid’s voice was annoying.

It was okay, but won’t be my favorite.

A masterful performance! The cast was perfect and production mindblowing. A wonderful cinematic experience that really transports you to England in olden days.

Gorgeous, immersive adaptation.
