From multi-million copy seller, K. L. Slater comes another breath-taking thriller, narrated by Claudia Jessie (star of Bridgerton & Line of Duty)

All she has to do is pretend to be his girlfriend…

Alicia has left her young son and sister to chase a better life in London. But she’s not just chasing opportunity, she’s running from the truth.

At the Orbit, an elite enclave towering above the city where the great and the good come to play, Alicia waits tables, watching everything.

When the charismatic owner of The Orbit offers her a deal - pretend to be her girlfriend in return for a salary and an apartment - Alicia accepts. After all, it’s only pretend … until it’s not.

Soon, Alicia is living the life she’s always dreamed of — but behind the flawless façade, something is deeply wrong and some deals cannot be broken. As her past begins to creep towards her, Alicia thought she was the only one playing a game.

It turns out she wasn’t alone…

It was a great story, but obviously stretched out to reach some kind of minimum length. The rehashing over and over again of plot points already covered was annoying. And that was a shame because the book would have been so much stronger without all the filler.

Stretched to reach page count?

It felt like there was a lot of build-up and not a lot of action or substance in the middle, then a lot of epilogue type content at the end. I kept waiting for something really shocking or exciting to happen but it was meh.

Plot was a little thin

Came across this on audible while waiting for my next book to drop. I liked it! Good story line and characters, easy listen, well performed.

Great short book

The primary plot was a bit predictable, other than exactly how part 2 of the ending came about. That was a clever twist. Kudos for that blindside.

The secondary and tertiary characters are hard to care much about. The author didn’t seem to care much for even the main characters, as there is really no clear ending. We don’t really have an understanding of what happens to the protagonist, the rest of her family, or the baddie. The other bit players just vanish. Did Ingrid stay or go? Why would Alyssia want to have her son live in that place and swim in that pool anyway? Does Jen find love with Barry or become besties with the ladies? How does Mr. Flopsy get replaced without a tantrum? Inquiring minds want to know!

I’d suggest it as a free listen if you like the author and have the time. I wouldn’t spend money or a credit on it and I wouldn’t tell a friend to add it to their wish list. It’s not worth a second listen for missed details.

Not one of her best but ok for free

I debated about giving this a 4 star rating. athe story was a good idea and I liked the idea of her working between two rivals. I just wasn't invested in the character. She was kind of flat and I didn't feel the connection to her family. Still a good enough read.l because of the story. and
