About this listen

When the rules turn deadly, winning is everything.

Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of Silent Child, Saving April, and The Broken Ones. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell and Paula Hawkins.

This gripping multi-voice audiobook features Billie Piper as Effie, Dan Stevens as Ben, Shane Zaza as David, and Avita Jay as Sophie, other roles are played by Felicity Duncan, David Holt and Sarah Whitehouse.

The perfect couple. The perfect marriage. The perfect game.

Effie and Ben May have everything. Success. Beauty. Glamour. But beneath the charming smiles and expensive clothes, a twisted game is in progress.

A game for which only they know the rules.

Leaving their fast-paced London life behind them, the Mays move to the exclusive gated community of Ivy Oaks. Here they can settle down and start a family in this quiet, safe little neighbourhood. At least, that’s what they tell their new neighbours.

But the truth has deadly consequences.

While Effie and Ben scheme and manipulate those around them, they fail to notice their carefully cultivated façade crumbling away. The perfect couple soon turn the game on each other, breaking all the rules. But when the stakes are life and death, losing isn’t an option.

As the final cards are dealt, who will play the winning hand and who will pay the ultimate price?

Thrilling! Keeps you on your toes the whole way

Incredible story telling! Loved the different characters at play and the twist and turns were phenomenal! I was sad when I would have to stop listening for whatever reason. 10/10 would listen to again!

I didn’t love the story. I was tired of it round the middle and to the end

An audictive listen with 1+ hour left

Again author Sarah A. Denzil delivers a uniquely sociopathic thriller. Unlike anything I’ve found in the past, “We Play Games” shocks us with twisty turns, bizarre secrets, lies and devious surprises, centering on Effie and Ben, a deceitful, provocative couple as they maneuver their way through a gated community (let the games begin). Meet the neighbors takes on a calculating meaning. Listen intently as Denzil’s offering is beguiling and involves complexellent subplots. Narrated by pitch-perfect, gifted narrators (Billie Piper, Dan Stevens, Shane Zaza, Avita Jay, Felicity Duncan, David Holt and Sarah Whitehouse), they brings the entire cast to vivid life. I found this in Audible Plus catalogue at no cost, though it is worthy of a treasured credit. Denzil’s collection of audiobooks is a prized addition to my Audible library. I post a review on every book on Audible as well as GoodReads. After eight years with Audible and hundreds of books, I’ve listened to many a second time. In order to do so, I keep an extensive list of all books with a side note on its rating and often take a peek at my review. I recently bought a disappointing book I deleted years ago, only to immediately return it. “We Play Games” is highly recommended. I’m shouting from my rooftop,, “Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!” Wait no longer! Grab this now!

Grips you right from the start

The story kind of reminded me of Desparate Housewives. The neighborhood had so much drama!

Love the way the author put in the unexpected twist in the end of a game played within a game.

The plot is plotting

I started off little confusing however, the plot started the thicken. There are multiple POV’s and twist and turns no one saw coming.

Intriguing Story

Great story, really draws you in from the beginning. Didn’t like the dramatic musical pauses, would have been a lot better without it.
