Publisher's summary
Vicki Nelson, formerly of Toronto’s homicide unit and now a private detective, witnesses the first of many vicious attacks that begin plaguing the city of Toronto. As death follows unspeakable death, Vicki, in an attempt to stop these forces of dark magic, is forced to renew her tempestuous relationship with her former partner, Mike Celluci - along with another, unexpected ally…. Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of King Henry VIII, has learned over the course of his long life how to blend with humans; how to deny the call for blood in his veins. Without him, Vicki and Mike would not survive the ancient force of chaos that has been unleashed upon the world - but in doing so, his identity may be exposed, and his life forfeited.

Story
Claire Hansen was a Keeper, a member of that select group that kept the universe in one piece. And now she'd been Summoned to the Elysian Fields Guesthouse, a rundown bed-and-breakfast that seemed to attract the most unusual clientele. And Claire was not happy about this latest assignment, not happy at all. Not when she'd been tricked into taking over here by a horrible little gnome of a man who'd abandoned his post before she'd even figured out who he really was. Not when room six held a resident who'd been sleeping there for so many years that she really needed a good dusting - except that it was far too dangerous for anyone to get that close to her.

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Story
On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

In the world’s most magical metropolis where spirits run noodle shops and cash-strapped dragons stage photo-ops for tourists, people still think fairies are nothing but stories, and that’s exactly how the fairies like it. It’s a lot easier to feast on humanity’s dreams when no one believes you exist. But while this arrangement works splendidly for most fair folk, Lola isn’t one of the lucky ones.

The facts are public knowledge: five people have been murdered. Each has died from a blow to the head. And the media-dubbed Prince Charming killer has left a “calling card” with each victim. A single thornless rose. But there’s another fact...one that the police haven’t made public. Something no one, except the killer and the police, should know. But Gabriel Donner does - and he can’t figure out why. All he knows is that he’s begun hearing voices, sleepwalking and dreaming vividly of the murders...as they happen.

Good story, not so good reader
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The story is good and if you can deal with the reader, it is fun to hear. I read the series in paperback several years ago and got hooked. If this had been my 1st exposure, not so sure I would have stuck with it.
What did you like best about this story?
Unusual composition for the main actors.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Strange sound to her voice. Definition of character voices varies -- same character, but sound is not always the same. Also, and maybe since I'm American, so many Scottish-sounding accents when the story is in Toronto, Canada is weird.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I enjoy the story twists and the interpersonal relationships.

Loved the Story hate the narrater.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The story line was very good, but then I read the book years ago. As I did with the one to follow.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Yes, her voice did not do good thing for the story.
Was Blood Price worth the listening time?
No, I will just reread my books, so I can keep the joy of the story.

Superior story--all six books.
If you could sum up Blood Price in three words, what would they be?
characters adventures imagination
What did you like best about this story?
Lead character "Victory" Vicki Nelson
Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This series is wonderful. Tanya Huff nailed a fun and entertaining six book series. Yes, the narrator takes half the first book to hit her stride. But from there on, she differentiated the characters and delivered a solid performance. I listened to each book, one after another, through the entire string. I immediately missed the characters when I finished---I was right there with them through all the adventures.

A fun read
Am not given to vampire stories, although I have found a few exceptions, including this one. Henry FitzRoy is not exactly your everyday vampire, after all, having been in his short lifetime the illegitimate son of an all too (in)famous king. He's managed to survive for four hundred fifty or so years as a vampire, and he doesn't intend to know destruction now that a variety of victims are being found strewn about Toronto in a pattern apparently intended to free a major demon lord into the world of the living. But without the help of a former homicide detective who is now turned private detective, there's a strong chance that he or a fellow vampire will be blamed for the gruesome deaths.
A fun, light read, and the description of the detective's retinitis pigmentosa is, for a refreshing change, spot on. So many writers trying to describe what visually disabled individuals experience haven't a clue as to what they'd really perceive!
The narrator's reading is a bit throaty for my taste, but works okay.

Entertaining but dated
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I think the story line and the characters are both quiet good, but the writing isn't good enough to make either shine. I think for a first book, and one written in the early 90s, it's not a bad work, but it's not engaging enough to make it a decent read or to compensate for the dated feel of the work--often the plot line relies too heavily upon no one having mobile phones.
I did think that the narrator is quite good and does quite a lot to make up for what is lacking in the writing.

Not the usual vampire tale.
I enjoyed this book very much. The plot was was good. My only complaint is that this reader's voice didn't show any type of voice change for the flashbacks. I had several listen overs. I came the the conclusion twice that the download from audible.com to computer or computer to iPod got messed up. Due to the number & variety of flashbacks used to explain character's background & such I would suggest a brief music score to differentiate them.

wonderful story, but the reader drags it WAY down.
I have been a fan of this series forever. I was elated to find it on Audible. But the reader was horrible! I couldn't stand it and quit less than 15 minutes into it. I honestly had a hard time understanding what she was reading. I am so diappointed. Tanya deserves better.
