The most emotionally punishing Dresden Files novel

The narration at the end of chapter 48 makes this entire story hit home with the force of an oncoming train. It is by far the most emotionally punishing Dresden Files novel yet. It's not a fun read. It's not a hard read. It keeps you up wanting to know what the hell happens next. It makes you want to cry, scream, and give a barbaric yawp. It is amazing.

A Classic

This is a classic series with classic characters such as in Lords of the Ring, Sherlock Holmes, Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood, and the Hobbit. There are puzzles to be solved, relationships forged, and villains to be vanquished and hearts to be won.

James Marsters is excellent when it comes to reading the Dresden Files. I can not separate the actor from the character now. His reading of this particular book was on point and very emotional.

Thank you Jim Butcher for the Harry Dresden universe and I wait for more to come.

F this book and god bless Butcher and Marsters

"I used the knife. I saved a child. I won a war. God forgive me." I could never just read this part... in the audiobook Jame Marsters just delivers those lines with so much god damn feeling that even though I knew what was coming, I cried and cried because it rips my soul out and makes me feel empty inside. This book, god this book. Up until this book I loved the series, it was funny, smart, and I mean it had a giant dog named Mouse! There was darkness in what happened to Michael and in part Thomas... but it wasn't truly dark. This book made me want to scream and set the world on fire. The absolute rage at 95% of this book made me HATE the Dresden Files before Changes. Because before Changes it is weak and wussy and my soul was still intact. There is zero chance that he will see this, but f you Mr. Butcher. (Though honestly if I were to write, I think I would enjoy a being told F you because of what I wrote.) tl;dr Book rips your soul out and leaves you mad af, thus making it my absolute favorite book in the series.

Yeah, a few changes!!!

Wow! Yeah, CHANGES alright! Was nothing left un-upended? And, as I've said before, in the audiobook series of this novel, James Marsters just gets better and better as a narrator...especially, in this story, when he does the voices of the Pixies (most especially for Toot-Toot)! Too funny! So, now, everything is up in the air! What next? OMG, I can't wait to find out. Anyway, this book, particularly, seemed to have a more compelling tone to it, too. Perhaps it's when Jim Butcher talks about kids (and Dresden's kid, in particular this time), he really shines. I look forward to the next in the series!

THINGS GETTING HARRIER FOR HARRY

Dark differences and more changes coming. The storyline as usual will keep you listening long after you arrive at your destination. Harry, Karyn, Thomas and the entire cast are in for some major changes. The narration is a dream and the twists and turns of this ongoing saga increasingly addictive. Keep up the good work Jim!

I highly recommend! But don't start here...start at the beginning.

If you've come this far...

Jim has outdone himself and James is once again my favorite narrator. All I can say is give yourself 2 hours at the end of the story to lock yourself in a room. I had to buy the next one right after!

The GOAT book

This is my favorite book of my favorite series. The whole thing is a Rollercoaster ride from the first to last sentences. It's incredible. And Marsters absolutely nails the recording. By far the greatest of all time.

Another enjoyable romp.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Early on in this series I was concerned that it would fall victim to a magical Magnum P.I. type of plot recycling. Butcher has managed to keep the stories not only internally consistent, but also move things along in interesting ways. If someone is looking for a series that is just a whole lot of fun, then this is it.

And Marsters is the BEST reader for these stories. Unfortunately, he doesn't read the audiobook that follows this one. I shifted over to the print version for that book, and am glad to see he is back for the latest installment.

I cried.

Changes. The book is full of change. James Marsters is the perfect fit as the reader. I have read the book many times, and even knowing the ending, I still cry.

James Marsters is the best

I tear up every time I hear or read the scene with Uriel. James Marsters is the best audio book reader I've ever heard, Butcher is a master
