Fiction or early warning? You decide.

Full disclosure, I have known the author for many years, but that only serves to inform my review, not tilt it. Ed Minyard provides an all too plausible story of how it may very well come to be that "the defecation hits the oscillating rotor" (a pure Minyardism). He writes with equal portions of experience, expertise, insight and imagination... and the imagination part is pretty well informed.

Complacency turns out to be a two-part tale. First, of how a well-planned and devastating series of attacks against the US is planned, carried out and reacted to. Second, of the stark reality of societal breakdown in a post-disaster reality. The overarching lesson here is in the title: complacency (as opposed to wise preparedness) severely deprecates your ability to survive any disaster.

As I finished this novel, the least complacent society on the planet, Israel, was caught off guard in an operation that contained many of the elements that Minyard warns about. It only serves to underscore Ed's warning and message. Beyond hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and solar flares, there are bad actors who want to create havoc or worse for their enemies. They are already among us in numbers that are sphincter-tightening. Live in denial and be complacent at your own peril.

Wake Up Call

The author weaves a thrilling, yet frightening, story using today’s issues and a very realistic possible scenario. The tapestry produced should be a wake up call to not only the US, but to communities worldwide- this could happen anywhere. Heed the warning! Prepare!
