Publisher's summary
What matters most in managing the family enterprise
Complete Family Wealth is a comprehensive resource for growing, maintaining, and managing wealth across generations. A successor to the classic Family Wealth, now in its 20th year, this book provides updated and expanded guidance to change the way you think about your wealth and legacy. This team of expert authors - who brought the field not only Family Wealth but also Family the Compact, The Cycle of the Gift, The Voice of the Rising Generation, and Family Trusts - ground Complete Family Wealth in a clear account of the "five capitals": human, intellectual, social, spiritual, and financial.
The discussion covers the "what", "who", and "how" of family wealth management in clearly delineated chapters that allow you to dip in as needed, from the principles of family enterprise to family governance, philanthropy, and more. Each family member plays a distinct role, and by exploring each member's responsibilities in terms of the family enterprise, this book provides insights and ideas for real-world families struggling with all-too-common challenges.
Growth-oriented practices today lead to generations of family flourishing in the future. This book provides the answers you need along with guidance and strategy for keeping your family's complete wealth intact.
- Understand the five forms of capital that comprise "complete family wealth"
- Explore the roles of each family member in helping the family enterprise flourish
- Learn how friends, trustees, and advisors contribute to family wealth management
- Adopt specific practices that help families grow their complete wealth and ensure its survival through generations
Family wealth can sometimes feel like more of a burden than a blessing. Developing the right understanding, character, and structures can improve family enterprise management and protect all your family's capital from whatever the world throws your way. Complete Family Wealth is a one-stop reference for ensuring a positive legacy for future generations.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Great wealth or a family business can act like a "black hole", sapping the dreams and aspirations of future generations who feel that they can never measure up to the fortune's founder.

When it comes to estate planning and the effective transfer of wealth, most discussions involving the terms wealth and money use those terms interchangeably. Although the two are not the same, most estate planners today do not even broach this concept with their clients or include the less-tangible aspects of wealth as they draft an estate plan. They simply develop an estate plan that prepares the family's financial assets to be dumped, divided, deferred, and dissipated among the members of the next generation.

Beyond the tax saving and wealth management implications, giving to family members opens up a slew of thorny questions, the biggest of which is, "How do I prepare recipients of such large gifts?"

America's elite have been using cash value life insurance to stockpile wealth for centuries. Used correctly, it is better described as a personal bank on steroids, and a financial bunker for tough times. To be clear, this audiobook is not about the typical garbage peddled by most insurance agents. Rather, an alternative to the risky investment strategies taught by Wall Street. It details a highly efficient form of cash value life insurance designed to supercharge your savings and stockpile wealth.

Story
Life is a series of negotiations, whether or not you think of yourself as a negotiator. From seemingly insignificant daily decisions to major life choices, you negotiate every time you aim to persuade, argue over a decision, or resolve a conflict. But as negotiations and leadership expert Erica Ariel Fox reveals, the most important negotiations - the ones that determine the impact of our actions and the quality of our lives - are those we have with ourselves.

Story
Starting in 1997, Bob Chapman and Barry-Wehmiller pioneered a dramatically different approach to leadership that creates off-the-charts morale, loyalty, creativity, and business performance. The company utterly rejects the idea that employees are simply functions to be moved around, "managed" with carrots and sticks, or discarded at will. Instead Barry-Wehmiller manifests the reality that every single person matters, just like in a family. That's not a cliché on a mission statement; it's the bedrock of the company's success.

Story
Michael Ellsberg and Bryan Franklin think you've been fed a lie: that if you save for decades and invest in 401(k)s, IRAs, and a home, these investments will grow steadily over decades, allowing 20 to 30 years of secure, peaceful retirement. This might have been true at some point in the last century, but it is not true any longer. If you want to get ahead and enjoy a life of prosperity, the authors argue that you must invest in the most powerful source of wealth you'll ever know: your own earning power.

Steven had lost not only his best friend of forty-three years but also his most enthusiastic encourager. In 2020, Steven was hospitalized, wondering if he’d survive COVID, and the Holy Spirit let him know, in no uncertain terms, that it was time to break free from past hurts and disappointments, start living in the present, and do what God had called him to do. Inspired, Steven began studying the life of Joseph, a biblical figure who used his suffering as a tool.

Good listen on family wealth development
This book details in story and technical about setting up the next generation for success as a family unit.
This book is not gonna give you specifics on technical structure of family offices or trusts.
It does give you important technical pieces and references successful families on governance of your family office or trust.
In closing it’s a great reminder how important these pieces are. If you have or are thinking of setting up a legacy family office or trust I recommend you give this a thorough listen to create the most successful governance for your legacy and family to withstand time long after your gone and more important while you are here.

Very boring delivery but great information
I am an audible junkie.. love to learn about topics such as this but this book took me nearly a month to complete. Loaded with fantastic material, but my goodness very very boring storyline. Because of my addiction to finish everything I start, I followed through but painfully.. the authors voice is very tiresome..
