Im Sommer 1289 Neuer Galaktischer Zeitrechnung sind Terraner an verschiedenen Punkten des Universums in Ereignisse verwickelt, die in einem engen Zusammenhang stehen. Perry Rhodan und sein langjähriger Freund Reginald Bull beispielsweise sind in der Galaxis Plantagoo auf die Galornen gestoßen, die im Auftrag unbekannter Mächte an etwas arbeiten, das für die heimatliche Milchstraße bestimmt ist.
Weder Rhodan noch Bull wissen allerdings, wie Plantagoo und die Menschheitsgalaxis verbunden sind. Alaska Saedelaere landete nach einer Irrfahrt durch die Galaxien Bröhnder und Tolkandir zuerst in der »Mittagswelt«, die sich mittlerweile als die Heimstatt der mysteriösen Goedda entpuppte.
Von Terra aus haben drei andere Zellaktivatorträger - der Arkonide Atlan, die Kartanin Dao-Lin-H'ay und der Terraner Myles Kantor - einen wagemutigen Vorstoß begonnen. Mit Hilfe der Herreach vom Planeten Trokan stießen sie in den sogenannten Brutkosmos vor.
Die drei Aktivatorträger wissen, dass sie nur in diesem Raum den Kampf gegen die Gefahr aufnehmen können, die derzeit die ganze Milchstraße bedroht: die Entvölkerung aller bewohnten Welten der Galaxis, ausgelöst durch eine mysteriöse Macht namens Shabazza. Den drei Aktivatorträgern gelingt in einem furiosen Kampf die Sprengung des Brutkosmos. Goedda, die Mutter aller Tolkander, wird zerstört.
Währenddessen geschehen in Plantagoo Dinge, die von Perry Rhodan und Reginald Bull noch nicht richtig eingeordnet werden können: DAMORGEN BRENNT.
