Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

I good book is worth hiring a good narrator!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

To read not to listen. I grinned and bared the narrator. This is the first Nora Roberts book I've listened to or read. The story was sadly a bit predictable.

How could the performance have been better?

Absolutely, but I've read the reviews on the next 2 books and the narrators look to be equally as awful.

Narrator

Story was intriguing enough. Great characters with believable personalities. The narration was over the top making it hard to listen to.

Good Story but the Narrator Needs to Calm Down...

Iona Sheehan decides to move from the States to Ireland in search of her long lost heritage and find some answers as to why she has magical powers. She learns she's part of a long line of dark witches and the missing link to complete a circle of 3 with her cousins. They need the complete power to defeat a thousand year old witch who's been haunting their dreams and their lives. The story is very good with thrills and chills at every angle but the narrator over exaggerates and I find myself with little headaches throughout the book. I know the story is suppose to be captivating by the powerful spells and magic but calm down narrator and quit blasting my ear drums out...so moat it be! Yes, the book is credit worthy but turn your headphones down and get ready for some overexaggrated narration.

Boring love story...boring storyline

What did you like best about Dark Witch? What did you like least?

Don't waste your time...it's boring, boring and did I mention boring! The story is lacking in depth, is never very interesting and wished I had stopped listening after the first hour. I was looking for more...and it never came.

Would you be willing to try another one of Katherine Kellgren’s performances?

Will not listen to another

Do you think Dark Witch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Nope...don't bother.

Spellbinding romance and witchery.

Nora Robert's storytelling captures you and takes you to the Ireland, its folklore and beauty.

Over acted

What did you like best about Dark Witch? What did you like least?

The story was ok, not the best NR

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The narration ruined the story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator over acted every part of this story. The main character sounded like a twit and the Irish women all sounded like old ladies. It was all just over the top.

Yes - I love Nora Roberts trilogies and this does not disappoint.

She did a great job with the Irish accents.

Reasonably good story, but not her best.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator is dreadful. Iona always sounds hysterical and shrill, and the other women sound elderly.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katherine Kellgren?

Someone who doesn't shriek all the time.

Was Dark Witch worth the listening time?

Might have been better reading the book than listening.

Nora Roberts at her best!

What made the experience of listening to Dark Witch the most enjoyable?

The story drew me in. The character development was perfect, the story line developed at a good pace. Just enough romance, just enough magic. I couldn't put this book down.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Iona of course! She had a sad past and was searching for a family connection. I'm so glad Ms. Roberts didn't make the connection with her new family and friends instantaneous...it grew at a good pace.

What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A wonderful warm Gaelic accent, wonderful timing!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Many moments...but particularly when Iona starts to learn her magical talents

Any additional comments?

Great story, can't wait for book 2!

Great Author

I love Nora Roberts, so having the opportunity to take in her work is always a pleasure! Knowing how she writes, it was not surprisingly similar to the Three Sisters trilogy; however, there were enough differences to keep it interesting.
