Publisher's summary

The first time she opens her eyes, Eve gazes on One whose beauty nearly blinds her, whose breath is in her lungs. Her Creator takes her hand and gives her to one like her and yet different. Together, she and Adam experience pure joy as they explore Eden. But her favorite moments are when the Creator comes to walk with them, day after day.

Until everything changes. With one act of disobedience, Eve finds that her world is no longer a friendly place. With remorse in her heart, she must face the unknown future—the births, the deaths, the sacrifices, the loss of the one home she has ever known. Perhaps worst of all is the loss of trust, not only with her Creator but with the man who shares her life. How will they ever survive out of Eden?

Bestselling biblical fiction author Jill Eileen Smith imagines the life of the first woman to ever live, unspooling a story of love, loss, and the promise of redemption.

Nice Story

A good interpretation of possible conversations and feelings. I couldn’t imagine being in Eve’s shoes.

Masterpiece Of A Story

Leah Horowitz did a great job narrating this phenomenal story about Eve, our first mother. Wow!! If I could write a book about Eve, this would be it. So well researched, such deep thought processing obviously went into this. Eve's heart, her hurts dealing with Adam's resentful anger, the death of Abel, the loss of children through empty nest syndrome, seeing many turn away from YAHUAH. The triumphs of birthing, learning to make whatever was needed whether food or utensils, seeing Seth and Enoch walk with YAHUAH. The dangers of the giant nephilim and the consistent self doubt she must have experienced. This is a "masterpiece" of writing. I literally took my time listening because I didn't want the book to end. I know I will listen to it again, probably many times. That says a lot because I rarely even want to do that. Excellent!!!

Interesting Insights

Fun story to think about. Narrator needs to improve her inflections at the end of nearly every sentence. Very distracting and too interpretative on her part.

I really loved it - felt like I was there

I really felt as though I was there. You always here people joke that they cant wait to get to Heaven and have a talk with Eve. This stops you in your tracks, and makes you think of how this stayed with her. Even though there were creative/artistic liberties, this felt real. LOVE this so much.

Fabulous

This book made the story of our beginning, and the beginning of creation, come alive! I understand that artistic liberties were taken with the story, but it all made perfect sense, and I believe the author is right on target! Thank you thank you, thank you for this beautifully written, and narrated book.

Very interesting story.

This was a very interesting take on Eve and her life. After Adam and Eve are removed from the Garden of Eden and their troubles begin, the story becomes very interesting. As they have children, if you can get over the cringe worthy feeling of siblings marrying and having children, the story turns into one you can't put down. There are stories that stay with you. This in one of those stories. Very good if you believe in the love and forgiveness of God. If not, you will not enjoy this book.

A Beautiful Depiction of the Beginning of the Worl

Daughter of Eden is Biblical Fiction at its best. While Eve is often criticized for being the first "sinner," Jill Eileen Smith does a superb job of fleshing out both Adam and Eve, exploring their equal culpability. The story raises many thought-provoking questions, such as: How did Adam and Eve learn to survive outside the Garden of Eden? Did they ever try to return to the Garden? How often did Adonai communicate with them after the expulsion from Eden? What about future generations?
Daughter of Eden explores these many questions and provides logical answers. The corrosive effects of sin are starkly contrasted with moments of true beauty. I love the depictions of Eve's and Adam's walks with God and of the way the sacrifices were explained. While another book, Havah, by Tosca Lee, portrays Cain in a much more sympathetic light, I think Smith's portrayal is more accurate to Scripture.
The author also explores the concept of the nephelim in a way that makes logical sense. While I am not sure I completely agree with her interpretation, I do admit it makes sense. The concept is very disturbing, though.
I also love how the author employed multiple perspectives with the story, even incorporating scenes from the Unseen Realm. The scenes from Michael and Lucifer's perspectives were enthralling.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of this book was the author's exploration of Enoch as a prophet of God. Little is said about Enoch in Genesis, but his role is explained a bit more in Hebrews Chapter 11. Smith really fleshes out Enoch's character and makes him an engaging, likable and intregral part of humanity during Adam and Eve's time. The climactic scene of the novel is beautiful.

Leah Horowitz is one of my favorite narrators, and she brings this book wonderfully to life. I particularly loved her portrayals of Eve, the Serpent, Enoch and Adonai Eloheim.

please give this riveting book a chance. Daughter of Eden is not a book to be missed. Thoroughly recommended!
God bless you all.
