Publisher's summary

When Fergus Galloway takes on a research trip to a tiny mining town in the far Western Australian outback, he’s as far from Sydney as he can get.

Which is entirely the point.

He arrives in Pannalego totally unprepared for the baking heat, unprepared for the people who call it home, unprepared for the craziness and the laughs. And absolutely unprepared for the man he meets there who steals his heart.

Davo is a mining man, as rugged as he is gorgeous. Loves his found family, loves where he lives, and loves his life. He also loves the feel of soft fabric on his skin.

What was supposed to be a short field trip changes Fergus’s life. Going to a place many call uninhabitable might turn out to be the only place he wants to live.

Short and sweet

This book was so cute and fun to listen to. The characters were all so fun. And the swearing parrot had me laughing out loud.

Sweet & Short, Yet Full

This had such a unique concept to it. I have not read a book that has anything similar. I love that this book was short, but I can also see how it could be drawn out to a full-length novel.

Davo & Fergus are so stinking cute. This book totally throws away stereotypes involved with masculinity, which I love.

More Hooka please

Loved this story even if it is a little contrived. Wish it had been longer and maybe have some angst filled situations involving a snake or two. Regardless, the best parts involved Hooka, the cocky. Listen to the story, you won’t be disappointed unless you dislike the use of crude language. The play date involving Fergus and Hooka was hilarious…….as were the reasons behind some of the nicknames….

5 solid gold stars ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I simply adored this book. I have laughed with books but never have I ever laughed so hard that I had tears coming down my face. That darn bird was absolutely the best. I give him 20+ Stars. I backed this book up and played parts of it to my family and boss. My boss just laughed and said "yep you need that bird."
Dave and Fergus are so unique together and I loved the sparky flirting that went back and forth.
I seriously recommend this book and deeply regret that I finished it so quickly.
The writing was top notched and the book was paced really well. I truly feel like I have visited this little town and these lovely people. I hope you enjoyed this book as much as I did.

Truly delightful!

Loved being transported to Australia's hottest desert, Pannalego, along with Fergus Galloway, a researcher needing distance from his home town of Sydney. Loved meeting Davo, a mining supervisor with gorgeous looks, engineering/mechanical abilities, and a penchant for lovely skirts. It was fun to meet the iconoclasts populating the mining town. Found family indeed! I was super delighted that the angst level was low, low, low. N.R. Walker writes beautifully descriptive scenes of the land, the sky, the mutual pleasure of two men finding one another. There were points in the book that made me laugh out loud, and since I'm wearing bone conducting headphones, I'm sure any observers were confused to witness a woman grocery shopping and laughing to herself.
Glen Lloyd was a wonderful narrator. I will definitely look for more of his narrated books.
Thank you N.R. Walker, thank you Glen Lloyd, for making four and a half hours of my day truly delightful.

So Sweet!

This was adorable! Light, sweet, no angst. Just a feel good story about a fascinating mining town, all the wonderful characters that live there, and the fabulous romance between Davo and Fergus. The narration was good and I was left with a smile on my face!

So freaking sweet

I think I fell in love with Davo the first time he was described. I fell even harder the further I read.

This story was told only through Fergus' POV and can only be described as wholesome. Fergus never judges Davo but does not want to wear booty shorts for some odd reason. He also finds his found family in this collection of people who live and work in the remote mining town.

The ending of the epilogue got me, it was just so cute.

The narration was unbelievably well done, Glen Lloyd is now going to be one of my favorites.

entertaining

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, nice flow, relatively low drama. I would have liked it to be longer though!
Great spin on what I would call very Australian, from the harsh but glorious conditions of the Australian desert to a Cockatoo who swears like a sailor and some local characters with nicknames as colourful as an outback sunset.
Was perfect for a lazy Sunday listen.

🎧 Narrator comment: Glen Lloyd has done a good job on the narration, I had no problem distinguishing characters and the rhythm, inflections and intonations all worked to bring the book to life.
