Resumen del Editor

In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated. In this new book, Drs. Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey build on the breakthroughs of Driven to Distraction to offer a comprehensive and entirely up-to-date guide to living a successful life with ADD.

As Hallowell and Ratey point out, "attention deficit disorder" is a highly misleading description of an intriguing kind of mind. Original, charismatic, energetic, often brilliant, people with ADD have extraordinary talents and gifts embedded in their highly charged but easily distracted minds. Tailored expressly to ADD learning styles and attention spans, Delivered from Distraction provides accessible, engaging discussions of every aspect of the condition, from diagnosis to finding the proper treatment regime. Inside you'll discover:

  • whether ADD runs in families
  • the links between ADD and other conditions
  • how people with ADD can free up their inner talents and strengths
  • the new drugs and how they work, and why they're not for everyone
  • sexual problems associated with ADD and how to resolve them
  • strategies for dealing with procrastination, clutter, and chronic forgetfulness

ADD is a trait, it only becomes a disorder when it impairs your life. Featuring gripping profiles of patients with ADD who have triumphed, Delivered from Distraction is a wise, loving guide to releasing the positive energy that all people with ADD hold inside. If you have ADD or care about someone who does, this is the book you must read.

Great, inspiring information in a sea of myths and useless edutainment.

I’ve just finished listening to this audiobook. I’m in my late 40’s and my 20 y/o daughter and I were both recently diagnosed. Talk to any late ADHD diagnosed person, and they will likely take off on a detailed description of discovering the reason they’ve felt “foreign” in their own world all their life. Because accurate and concise ADHD information is so hard to come by (vs. the thousands of YouTube snippets, brief articles and online forums), many of us just thought we were weird.

Fortunately, some doctors and scientists are taking an honest look at the condition and educating patients with great books such as this.

But don’t stop here! Read everything you can on ADHD, because you are likely to be more knowledgeable after one book than your doctors- and usually, you will be your biggest advocate.

Hang in there. There is hope for peace with a mind that society has ignored in its development.

First book on ADHD that actually gave me hope

Amazing book on ADHD; both thorough and magical in helping me understand both myself and my young son 100% better. But most importantly, it didn’t take the common tactic of scaring the reader with limitations, startling statistics, or terrifying “what if’s”. It handles the subject of learning and energy differences with grace, hope, optimism, and helps readers to understand how truly special people with ADHD are…not abnormal or “disabled”, but in many respects quite gifted. It can shift your entire perspective and point of view on the subject, handling even the sensitive issue of ADHD medication in a way that takes away the typical reflexes of fear, guilt, and shame. So...Bravo! A terrific resource and must-read for anyone with ADHD, or a child or loved one who has (or you suspect has) ADHD. A compassionate, uplifting and inspired guidebook.

A good start but not enough

I am too busy to sit down and read at the moment so I thought this would be a good alternative. It is indeed excellent, but I have now ordered the book because I was taking notes to remember the tips and other things that were in list form. I think the audio book should come with a mini-ebook with that information to save spending the money twice!

Informative and comforting for those w/ ADHD

I truly enjoyed reading this! It helped me to become more self-aware and in control of my ADHD and OCD habits. It also helped me to engage in some insightful conversations with loved ones. This book has helped us understand how to work with each other and to communicate better as well! I also recommend that those who have a loved one with ADHD should read this as it is a useful tool! So much helpful info but my add brain doesn’t know where to start

I feel I’ll be using this book as reference for the rest of my life, my add husbands life, my add sons life.
If I can just remember where to find the info within the book. 😅
