Story
Making a place for yourself in a world where you don’t belong takes courage. So does moving in with a warlock. Especially one who is a cauldron of seething anger on his worst days…half-mad on his best…who is thinking, perhaps, of killing you. Waterspell tells the story of the lost traveler, Carin, who is drawn into the schemes of a hot-tempered, emotionally damaged wizard. Does he view her as nothing more than an expendable weapon in his fight to save his world from lethal alien plagues? Or will Lord Verek find himself wavering when it comes time to dispose of his water-sylph?

Publisher's summary
Who will save the Dragon from the Princess?
Blitz is meant to be a rampaging Devastator Dragon. Unfortunately, lighting his own hearth fire isn't really a strength. When he accidentally kidnaps the black Princess Azania, the most beautiful woman in all the realms, riches, honor, and undeniable glory beckon.
Never mind that every knight errant, prince, and scoundrel in the land now wants his head on a platter. Minor details.
Far worse, she's a woman with actual ideas and the nerve to decide she doesn't want to be rescued. What she'd rather do is reform her Dragon. Her Dragon! Gnarr!
With humor, unconventional flair and the odd stomp of a diminutive slipper, the mismatched pair set out to turn the kingdoms on their heads.
Beware. Fate hath no fury like a Dragon-riding Princess scorned.

Story
Long before they were spirit animals, the four were still legends - Great Beasts, the most powerful beings to roam the wilds of Erdas. Aided by a brave resistance of humans and animals, they gave their lives to protect the world from a threat more dangerous than any it had seen before: their own kind. Wise and cunning, gentle and ruthless, these are tales of the true heroes and villains in the war that started it all.

Brilliant!
This story captivated me from start to finish. The humor and witticism is rich and well timed. The character development is superb, use of "big words" throughout was very refreshing, and an overall extremely engaging story. This was the first I have read from this author, and will definitely be listening to more from him now!

Far too many political and social issues pushed by the authors. Distracted from the story
This is an excellent story, I’d give it a full 5 stars IF you didn’t have to listen to his social and political views pushed onto you every few chapters. I don’t deny racism is real, sexism is real, different sexual preferences and desires are real, BUT I don’t need the authors agenda and personal beliefs in a book about a human and dragon saving the world as they discover who they truly are. So many references and terms are far too modern for the world this is suppose to be in.
But for reals; the story is great! The characters; excellent and the narrator incredible. Brought the book and the story alive. Just unneeded distractions from the story, that without would of flowed better and been more enjoyable

Lots of dragon time.
It is about an artistic dragon who has a princess and uses her to interface with the human world. Also he does dragon things and goes on an adventure. It has lots of feral dragon PoV, with the occasional princess PoV. The narrator also makes lots of dragon noises.

it's a dnf for me
I'm about half way through and giving up. Just don't care enough about it. I like the premise, like the characters...I think. I would have liked more actual character development and a lot less banter. Some of it's cute, and I admire the dedication to alliteration. But it gets old and feels beyond forced when every. single. interaction has to be banter. Maybe it loses something in being narrated, idk. Overall I think the narrator does a good job, his voices are well done although I think his overall delivery is too serious for this book. The novelty of the story is starting to lose out to the things that annoy me. And, calvary? CAVALRY! I don't know if it was the author or the narrator, but there's a chapter where the word Calvary is used incorrectly at least 30 times!
