Publisher's summary

The monarch wants him dead. A dragon’s torching the realm. Is his heroic gig about to be a critical catastrophe?

Gorm Ingerson knows the king is a fink. With the land’s insidious ruler hell-bent on his destruction, the axe-wielding Dwarf berserker is desperate to beat him to the punch. But when he discovers the rotten regent’s claim of a town razed by the world’s richest dragon is false, the gruff adventurer fears there’s more than a personal grudge at stake.

Struggling to convince his old comrades that they need to help him solve the mystery, the dwarven idealist stumbles into a sinister smuggling ring. And with strange creatures, cunning assassins, and vindictive bankers all plotting his demise, Gorm worries this time the price of doing the right thing will be fatally high.

Can he make a saving throw against death with a high-stakes roll at disadvantage?

Dragonfired is the thrilling third book in the Dark Profit Saga satirical fantasy trilogy. If you like witty banter, RPG references, and clever sendups of popular tropes, then you’ll love J. Zachary Pike’s laugh-out-loud conclusion.

More Funny Fantasy

This book isn’t as funny as the previous 2, and honestly the first is the funniest by far. It still has plenty of funny lines, but is less comedic throughout. It’s a good book, a good end to a good series, and I liked it, but I wish the whole series kept the same amount of comedic tone, pacing, and character development as the first installment. It feels like the plot improved at the cost of the series’ original strengths shining less. I think the first book read like Discworld meets Dungeons & Dragons, but this book felt more like just Dungeons & Dragons with occasional jokes. It’s good, just not exactly what I hoped for going into it.

Great conclusion of the story

I was waiting for the final installment so badly and i was not disappointed. I love this story, the economics, the racism, the romance, the creatures, all so wonderfully woven into a great story. I love all the characters and i wonder which one is my favorite. Can't come to a conclusion. I love them all. The narration is fantastic. I can only recommend the trilogy, if you love trolls, and dragons and elves and gnomes and such this is a great story to listen to.

Pratchett-esque, a masterwork.

My favourite fantasy series outside of Sir Terry's Discworld. My greatest regret that I've now finished it and will likely have to wait a few years before I inevitably will want to revisit this jewel. I laughed, I cried and more than once had to pause because I was yelling at myself in excitement.

Deep characters, Excellent plot twists

I have been waiting for this book for so long and I’m not disappointed. I love how the story, characters, and morals are for people of all ages. They have the simplicity and depth that a child can understand, but that even a well seasoned adult can relate to. This book is not preachy, if it was, I wouldn’t have finished book one. I wouldn’t hesitate to gift this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy. I already know that I am going to come back to this series again and again. I ran a dnd campaign based off of this setting because of how much it inspired me.
The comedy of the office, mixed with the adventure of high fantasy. A genuinely amazing story from a brilliant author.

A great ending to a amazing journey

Honestly this was so well worth the wait, ever since I picked up orcanomics I knew I would love this story immensely from start to finish and J.Z.P did not disappoint at all. I love how the story changes your perspective on certain things and makes you feel for certain characters and all the twist. Something I wasn’t prepared for and some completely blew me away. After listening to all three books I would gladly recommend this series to anyone.

Satisfying ending to a clever, funny story

I enjoyed listening to this final part of the trilogy. It took me a few chapters to remember the players, but then I fell into the story and am sad to see it end. Very enjoyable and clever!

good 😊 liked it

it was a bit too deus ex machina and maybe a little too saccharine too.

You won’t read this review

Undoubtedly, if you’re about to purchase this book, you’ve already read its predecessors, Orconomics and Son of a Liche (yes, I agree with Mr. Pike, this is indeed the correct spelling of Liche). Having done so, no doubt the conclusion of this trilogy has been both long awaited and eagerly anticipated for you, and, if you’re anything like me, for your friends, family, and even general acquaintances who mistakenly bring up Fantasy Literature within earshot.
If, for whatever reason, you are in fact reading this review, Gleebek fellow fan. You’re probably asking, “After all this suspense, anticipation, and buildup, could the trilogy’s conclusion possibly tie up all the loose ends in a satisfactory fashion? So many authors have disappointed!”
My response is this: “1st, calm down. We hardly know each other. 2nd, no, the conclusion is not satisfying. It is a revelation in spellbinding tale-telling that surpasses any and all expectations I could possibly have had or dreamed to have.”
Doug Tisdale Jr.’s performance is entirely consistent with the previous books (which, as we all know, is superb), and my only actual qualm with the audiobook (now that I’ve read it twice in quick succession), is that the producers could have used a bit more compression/normalization of the audio, as the tail end of a couple of Doug’s sentences drop off dramatically. Yep. That’s it. My only note. Well, one other note. This one is to J. Zachary Pike. Mr. Pike, thank you for all the autographed copies of the paperbacks I’ve requested over the years. Sorry to flood your inbox with so much fan mail. And I apologize in advance, there’s probably more to come.

bit messy, but sticks the landing

Great conclusion to a great trilogy! Pacing is a bit awkward in the middle, but it brings it together by the end.

The racial allegory is extremely blunt, but handled well enough. The author just barely stopped himself from making the new bad guys at the end "light power," haha.

Great final book in the trilogy

If you liked the first two, you’ll like this.

Nice to have the various story lines wrapped up neatly.
