About this listen

Stranded in distant lands, Hal finds himself in a scorching desert of dark sands ruled by a tyrant and a mechanical army after any Founder's head.

Hal's triumph over the Tower of Blight should have left his settlement of Brightsong stronger than ever. Instead, it left them without a leader, and their strongest members were sent halfway across the world.

Trading frigid cold for unrelenting heat, the Dunes of Midnight are no less vicious than the Shiverglades. Beastmen attack the outskirts of civilization while the Adventurer's Guild falls to ruins.

Wanting nothing more than to return home before the tribes of the Shiverglades arrive on Brightsong's doorstep, Hal seeks answers in the metropolis of Dalmanii. Before he can even get his bearings, a sudden betrayal places him at the center of a plot brewing in the heart of the city.

His only way out is to navigate the ever-shifting alliances and shady dealings between the Guilds of Dalmanii. Hal and his friends will have to fight assassins, thieves, mages, thugs, and even the city's automaton peacekeepers if they want to see Brightsong again.

Love this series but...

I absolutely adore these books but this one feels kind of like it didn't really go anywhere. A whole lot of sitting around and going over stats in the beginning which I can understand a refresher from the last book. Was just kind of hoping for more of the story to be pushed forward and instead got an interesting side quest and World expansion.

plot progression blueballs

so i gotta say i do love the series and will 100% keep reading it. but the last few books, it always seem that when the main characters are about to accomplish or start doing something that we have been waiting a while for. Something unimportant or out of uninteresting side trackes the characters. i really wish hale would stop getting yetted away from home and just further the Established plot.

Boring, dud, disappointing

Man, you have everything right there to make this a great series, yet you intentionally try and drag out plot lines book after book, building a climax, just to have it completely fizzle out, turning to a huge dud in the end. Nobody wants to listen to 90% stat progression minutia, especially over some stupid new adventurers guild that has nothing to do with the rest of the story. Since book 2, you’ve been building up this meeting with the tribes, then completely Sidetrack his meeting, that again you built up for six books, making it stupid and completely insignificant in the end, drinking competitions, really?. It’s great to expand and have the characters do other things, but try and stick to some storyline progression and tie into something, don’t drag out the same thing for multiple books. I think I speak for everyone when I say please Eliminate 80% of the stat progression crap you put in there, Don’t waste time on entirely insignificant things like some guild office and a different city, clearly put some more action in, and some more significant storyline progression to each book. Another book similar to this came out on the same day, I won’t mention the name, I’m sure you know what it is, Mr. Baldree narrated it, but go look at the reviews there compare them to the reviews here, there’s your sign. Good luck on the next one, I’ll give it one more shot, thank you.

Tired of filler

This author can wright a great story but his books get more and more scatterbrain. We get chapters of other characters we either don’t need or care about. What happened to just following the main character hoping to build a new city. Each book seems to take us futher and further away from that. We the author focuses the story is great

Nothing happened?

Love the series but I’m not going to lie, a lot happened and nothing at all at the same time a good chunk of the story is just reading abilities and the like. As soon as the story starts going you have about 5 hours left.
