Publisher's summary

A vicious predatory alien alliance. An advanced alien civilization on the edge of extinction. An Afghanistan war veteran operating a solar farm in the desert.

When Kyle Wimberly, the hands-on president of Full Cycle Solar, Inc., investigates a unit failure, he finds an alien shuttle has crashed into it. The shuttle's captain is grievously injured, his crew dead. Then, to Kyle's surprise, the captain asks for help, speaking perfect English.

Kyle and colleague Alexandra Reyes carry the captain to the shuttle's medical bay for treatment by its auto-doc. This simple act of compassion launches the two down a path that will change their lives and the world forever.

From bestselling author D. Ward Cornell comes a new tale of human ingenuity, alien conflict, and one man's struggle to lead a reluctant world to preparedness, despite the personal and political barriers in his way.

A well performed well told captivating story

This is top shelf storytelling - imaginative compelling and gripping. The best first contact story I’ve bought.

Weird, unnecessary mid-story romantic subplot

Spoilers.

I am absolutely certain that the love cube that the main character/author decides to institute halfway through the book breaks some principle of storytelling. It's very cringey and completely unnecessary.

It took a long time to develop

The story was entertaining but very slow to development. The protagonist was not believable.

Go back and read award winners. They are better.

Reality based and imaginative

The story and characters are engaging and realistic. The performance is also excellent. The science is believable, even when it extends into fiction.

Great story with focus on the technology and a positive alien contact

Both written and narrated well. Puts a focus on the technology and adventure of a positive first contact. Doesn't get bogged down in interpersonal human drama like so many other stories do.

Pure Garbage

The characters are all two dimensional cliches. The story is so simplistic it could be a poorly written, too long child’s book. The technology is just so much wishful thinking.

I suggest that if the author wants to write some serious science fiction he (1) read some good science fiction or any good book and (2) take some classes on how to write.

The narration is flat and every character sounds the same, except for the alien. The narrator just makes the alien sound like a simpleton. I am reminded the deplorable way early US TV depicted native Americans
