Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Loved it.

Was looking for another book to do waiting for the next Robert Jordan book. Wanted a fantasy and I'm sold I finished this book last night and I am now looking for another book. When I heard the end of the narration stating it was the end of book one got very happy because that means there should be another one.. To my dismay I did not find book two here on audible. Looking forward to next book can hardly wait.

Love it!

I love this book and have read it multiple times. Decided to give the audio book a try and I'm very happy with it! ONLY thing I didn't like was the voice for Saphira. To me lol it sounded evil n demonic but I can understand the struggle to portray a female dragons voice when a man is narrating. but besides that. I loved the voice definitions in every other character. very happy and will enjoy this book again :)

Nostalgia Flourishes

I loved being able to listen to one of my favorite books from middle school. I have few grievances if any for the book. The one thing I would change is Doyle's voice for saphira. Normally I wouldn't mind, and his other voices for the characters such as Brom, Murtagh, and others were amazing. I just always imagined Saphira as a very smooth, regal voice. That all aside, I can't think of a.better performer for the books!

Eragon

Both my 16 year old son and I listened to this book. We both felt that we couldn't wait until we had another opportunity to get back to it. The language of the book was rich with action and description. We will be waiting for the sequel.

love these books...but

They don't have a climax--even after 3 books--no climax. Yet, I've read them 2xs and yearned for them again. I love the adventure, characters, the story. Truly gifted writer--just want an ending!! Perfect narrator.

The author instantly drew me in with the story. It was very refreshing to get back to this genre.

Wow

I wasn’t expecting to love it. It started off fast, like, I tried to slow it down just to process what was going on which just made it sound awful and then there was music, we almost returned it. But, once we got past the intro and made it in a few pages, we settled into the story and it was catchy. Very much Lotr meets the black cauldron - which I loved. We are looking forward to the rest of the books. There are a lot of secrets and twists to keep it interesting enough to talk about it as a family when you’re not listening to it.

Even if you are not a fantasy fan!

The characters are well drawn and endearing. I enjoyed this so much, I thought I would purchase another fantasy book -- well, that made we realize how good this book really is. I ended up giving up on The Swords of Shanarra because it was so repetitive and the characters one-dimensional. I look forward to more by this young writer who already outshines seasoned veterans.
