"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.
Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews
"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)
"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)
"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Story
Daven Carrickson grew up as a beggar in the filthy alleys beneath the shadows of the palace. He's the son of a known thief, disgraced and despised. His only real talent is his ability with a sword, and his only real chance at finding honor or a home is a desperate dream of joining the King's Guard. Then, Daven receives a new future when Master Claighan invites him to study magic at the Academy. The wizard offers to make him into a new kind of soldier: a swordsman equally skilled with forged blades and mystic forces.

Story
Their peace was a fragile thing, but it had endured for seven years, mostly because the people of Darassus and the king of the Naor hordes believed his doom was foretold upon the edge of the great sword hung in the hall of champions. Unruly Naor clans might raid across the border, but the king himself would never lead his people to war so long as the blade remained in the hands of his enemies. But when squire Elenai’s aging uncovers evidence that the sword in their hall is a forgery, she’s forced to flee Darassus for her life, her only ally the reckless, disillusioned Kyrkenall.

Excellent!
This is a very good book. It’s exciting and VERY long. It’s a bit slow paced, but it’s entertaining and well written. I admire the narrators talents, and he is very good at setting the scene with his voices and exotic accents. My one pet peeve is that the dragon kind of constantly sounds like an angry muppet. It’s a little annoying to me, but I’ve honestly gotten used to it. I wish there were more female characters, but what are you going to do. I recommend this for fantasy nerds. It’s a lot like Lord Of The Rings. Over all, it’s a compelling story and a good narrator.

This book
I have always loved this book series! Not super fond of the narrator. He did good but I needed the voices to sound a little more different from each other.

Good except for saphiras voice
I loved this series when I was young. I read all the books twice when I was in middle school. This is actually my first time listening to an audio book. I just started trucking and naturally have all the time in the world to listen to stuff. I obviously like the story but the narrator. He's pretty good. I can tell who's talking just by the different voices, and he reads at a good pace. However, saphiras voice breaks the immersion a little. She communicates telepathically. However, the narrator chooses to give her a really deep, throaty voice. which might be okay for a male dragon, but for a sophisticated female dragon like saphira is kinda meh

An excellent story
The story is excellent and always enjoyable. However the portrayal of Saphira’s voice is terrible.

Read again and again.
I've read this series annually since I was 14. It's an amazing tale of growth through love as well as trials and tribulations. Not to mention the amazing lessons in diversity from so many point of views. Truly a classic.
