Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Great book

This is the first fantasy book I've listened to and I think it's great. Definitely worth the credit. It's fast paced and written well enough. I guess it is kind of simple in plot but it's very enjoyable book. Didn't want to put it down. Don't listen to fantasy nerds out there.

Great book!! Good Performance

Having read this book before I new what to expect. It’s an amazon boom and series which is why I’m now listening to the audiobook. My only nag is I wish there were a different range of voices for the creatures that talk instead of all being the relatively low grumble. Having
Seen the awful movie it’s still imparted a certain voice for Saphira which took a while
to get past.

Excellent story for Mom and Dad too.

I was first introduced to this story when my son read it voraciously. He couldn't wait for new books to come out and bought them when they were hardback. This made me wonder if it was just a Kid book or would I enjoy it.

If you enjoy the classic adventure with heroic deeds, you will enjoy this book.

Way better than expected

I read this because I like to read what my kids read, and didn't expect to like it. For the 1st quarter, I was too distracted by the feeling that this borrowed too much from Lord of the Rings and several other fantasy series. However, the book developed good characters on its own, and told a good story. I look forward to the sequel on audiobooks

Great Story of Depth

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Great storytelling that moves along at a good pace. It gets complicated at times, but never too so. I will eagerly devour the rest in the series.
