Publisher's summary

Humanity has avoided interstellar war for centuries.

It was a time of peace, prosperity, and exploration. But when an unexpected attack cripples a scientific vessel, the SRES Argo, it appears that time has come to an end.

Chief Medical Officer Tag Brewer is the ship's only survivor. He is alone in the far reaches of space. To survive, he must restore and protect the downed vessel from its unknown attackers on a planet as deadly as it is mysterious. He vows to do everything in his power to seek justice for his fallen crew.

When Tag uncovers a sinister secret about those who attacked the Argo, he realizes far more is at stake than just his survival. Something more powerful, more technologically advanced, and more ruthless has emerged from the darkest voids of the galaxy. It's up to Tag to survive long enough to warn humanity and stop the dawn of a new war.

An outstanding story and listen in all aspects

This is a 2020 must read or better must listen. The story is excellent match to an equally excellent narration. Science is realistic and the author brings each if his character to life in exquisite detail.
it is also an innovative twist and setting. Again a must listen

Trying hard to find positive descriptors

I finished the book so I didn’t totally give up on it. Bradford Hastings has a sonorous, pleasant bass voice and expressed about as much enthusiasm as I felt. Battle scenarios are comparable to David facing many Goliaths without a sling and overcoming with no adequate explanation apart from inept opponents combined with extraordinary luck.

Excellent

Since this was my first Audible Plus listen, I was half expecting something similar to most of the 2/month free only on Audible selections. (i.e. not very good) This was an excellent story. The characters were engaging. The story was interesting with lots of room for plot twists, new story lines, etc. I'll very likely buy the omnibus of books 1-3 in the future. If I'd paid a credit for it, I wouldn't have been upset. There were some clunky sections, but overall, an excellent listen.

update: Nix that. Book 2 & 3 seem to be included in Audible Plus. Assuming they are as good, I'll be buy book 4? LOL. I think I like free books.

Love it! Love it! Love it!

Suprises, good characters, understandable action! I really liked it! I'm a HUGE fan of expeditionary force by Craig Alanson, and this one really reminded me of the series but it all the best ways! (not saying it's a copy) By the quality is amazing "mwah" *chefs-kiss*!

Just what I needed.

Loved every minute of this book. I often struggle to stay engaged with books because many fail to hold my attention. Not this one! from beginning to end I was hooked. can't wait to read the next book in this series, or any book by this author. Tagg Brewer is just the kind of main character and ships Captain/ medical office i needed. Hats off to the author for weaving such an incredible story.

Cheap sci-fi, read by an alien. Listen if it is free.

The book is passable; the narrator...
His narration style is something between Capt. Kirk’s odd....placement....of....dramatic...pause and what it must be like listening to an extraterrestrial try to read in a human language they learned from a book. Yes, the words and phrases are sound, but the rhythm and emphasis and everything is.....off. And weird, and it distorts the story.
As for the story, it’s like that movie Armageddon— yes, it features spacecraft, but is otherwise written with essentially zero care to realism. Lots of vocabulary that sounds spiffy to non-sci-fi people, bandied about carelessly to further an awkward narrative.
It’s okay to pass some time of it comes with a subscription, but don’t spend any money on it.

Bland Narrator

The story is enjoyable enough, but the narrator makes almost no effort to distinguish the characters from each other. It makes it a little difficult to follow some of the conversations. It's a shame really.
