Imagine finding a glimmer of good news in a diagnosis of Alzheimer's. And imagine how that would change the outlook of the five million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, not to mention their families, loved ones, and caretakers. A neurologist who's been specializing in dementia and memory loss for more than 20 years, Dr. Gayatri Devi rewrites the story of Alzheimer's by defining it as a spectrum disorder - like autism, Alzheimer's is a disease that affects different people differently.

Need-to-know information for caregivers
I've recently watched a loved one go through something similar to Alzheimer's, and it's excruciating for everyone involved. But I know there are people who manage to keep it together. How do they do it? Well, they practice the skills in this book. It's really well-researched, super-compassionate, and a fantastic tool. Great narrator too.

Good!
This book is a must-listen since, even if we haven't had a family member suffer from Alzheimer's disease, we just never know. It discusses the range of emotions you could experience and informs us of some possible early indicators. We are learning how to prepare financially from Torri as well. Interesting fact: hallucinations can be a sign of some conditions. wow! I was alarmed when she went into detail about putting safety measures in place around the house to prepare like a huge kid who might easily be wounded there! That must be difficult, which is why I heartily endorse this book!

This is a must Read because even if we haven't experienced a family member with Alzheimer's disease you just never know and this book describes the different emotions you can feel and is letting us know the early symptoms someone can have. Interesting fact I did not know is that one of the symptoms can be hallucinations! wow! and I got scared when she went into detail about preparing around the house having safety measure like a big toddler that can easily get hurt around the house! must be hard that is why I highly recommend this book!

A needed guide, from first hand experience.
The reality of having a relative going through Alzheimer’s is tough. Ms. Fisher gives you a first hand perspective on she is going through and the ways she copes.
You can tell that she is definitely writing from the heart and that the experiences are real and not second hand stories that were given to her. You can also tell that she did her research and tried to gain as much knowledge as she could while hitting the issue head on.
For the audio, Ms. Brabham’s tone, cadence, and inflection were perfect. She added the slight chuckle or placed a slight pause that reflected the author’s mood and how she wanted to relay the point.
Overall I loved listening. I found that this guide will be an essential part of not only a caregiver, but for anyone who will be part of the care team for those who may go through dementia or Alzheimer’s. It will set you up for success as well as ease some of rough patches that you are sure to go through during the process

A tough subject handled with great care
Sadly more people are being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. I was surprised to learn there were serveal types of dementia. I liked the logicial structure of the guide. It started with how the body and brain was effected, and then spoke of the reality of getting the right support team in place to care for somebody suffering with dementia. Often, it is difficult to face such things as legal and financial planning, and it was touching to note the care in which not just this section, but the whole guide was created.

Packed with information I need
My Dad is 93. I have been his caregiver for 4.5 years. His mental capacity has recently started declining. I had no idea there were so many types of dementia until I listened to this book. I find this sad but fascinating. I am grateful for the detailed guidance this book gives for what I should expect. I now feel prepared. I'm sure I will listen to this book again soon.

A must have
As a healthcare provider, I have seen firsthand the impact Alzheimer can have on caregivers. They give all their energy to the person they are caring for and loose themselves in the process. This can be a very difficult stage in life so being informed is the best we can do about it. Several examples of activities were given to improve concentration, memory, critical thinking, to boost self-confidence and give them purpose. This book is a must have for those who are starting the journey of a caregiver as it gives you hope with motivation.

An incredible resource!
Alzheimer's runs strong in my family. After years of watching my grandparents suffer from this disease and my father struggling to manage their care, I often thought, how am I going to do this one day? How am I going to care for my father once his early onset Alzheimer's begins?
Well... this book has all the answers. It has taught me how to prepare and navigate myself throughout the process. I feel confident that I now will be able to help my father to the best of my abilities while at the same time managing my own self-care to keep me strong through the process.
It is obvious that the author wrote this book with love and compassion for the matter. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease.
