Publisher's summary

The Nephilim—the sons of fallen angels—have a plan: find ancient, powerful weapons, storm Eden, defeat the guardian Cherub with his flaming sword and eat from the Tree of Life. Then they can rule the Earth as gods. Gaining such weapons is highly dangerous, however. They will need ensorcelled humans to trip primeval traps for them, dying in their place. Young Joash, a freed slave, knows nothing about these things. He trains to become a charioteer like the champion Herrek who freed him from bondage. But when Herrek’s band falls under a Nephilim spell, Joash will have to find the courage and wisdom to be like the mouse that freed a netted lion and save his newfound family and friends from a hideous and ancient evil. GIANTS is the start of the Lost Civilizations Series that tells of the war between Nephilim and men in the days before the oceans overran the Pre-Cataclysmic World.

Subject matter

The reader mispronounces some names and words. It is distracting to the story narration performance.

Could'nt finish

Listened to most of it but couldn't finish. I am a long time follower of Vaughn's works, Listened to almost everything he has created. I am extremely disappointed in his decision to go with computer generated voices. This removes all of the personality of the characters and the storyline itself. If it was a monetary decision not to pay readers, it was a poor decision. If the trend is to continue with the computer readers, I will not be purchasing or listening to books in this format. Sorry Vaughn.

virtual voice sucks!

it probably could have been a good story, but the virtual voice totally sucked big time. A good story and the way it is told depends on how it is read. Like the timing being right to land the punch line in a joke. The inflection and cadence of the spoken word is a HUGE part of communication! Haven't you ever sent a text message and the recipient gets a completely different meaning than intended?
I went out on a limb and listened to the whole story,. The virtual voice ruined the whole thing. I will never waste my time again. If it's virtually narrated I will pass every time. Next time spend the extra money and have a REAL person tell the story.
