Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

Loved the story!
Virtual notation is terrible. I almost stopped listening but I wanted to know how it ended. Certain words and phrases weren’t emphasized correctly which dampened my enjoyment of the book. Next time I’ll read a book myself if it has virtual voice narration.

Narration
The story was pretty good. There were some interesting twists. But, the robotic narration was distracting. The inflections & mispronunciation of certain words were a reminder that you didn’t have a human narrator. I will probably try to avoid this type of narration in the future.

Engaging thriller with interesting characters.
Her Darkest Secret is the fourth of A Thriller collection by Vincent Zandri that I’ve read or listened to. In this case I listened to the audiobook narrated by Virtual Voice. While the right human narrator could have brought this story to life, Virtua Voice did a very good job of keeping me engaged and entertained as I listened to the story.
Speaking of this story, of the four thrillers that I’ve read, this book is my favorite. Along with a cast of characters who are each flawed in their own ways the situations they find themselves in felt like I was riding a carnival ride that had my head whipping around. While the action in this story may not be non-stop, it is well paced and filled with plenty of suspense between the action scenes.
If you enjoy thrillers, this is a terrific book to settle in with and feed your thriller appetite.
