Publisher's summary

Houston, Texas. Cowboy boots, baseball and journeys to the stars…. right? Wrong. Because Houston is also home to Jabril Karim, one of the eight powerful Vampire Lords who control all of North America and, as Private Investigator Cynthia Leighton will soon discover, not all Vampire Lords are created equal. Jabril is the face of evil in the new world, a vampire who values no life but his own, who enslaves those he desires, steals whatever he covets, and destroys anyone who stands in his way.

Running from L.A. and its seductive Vampire Lord, Raphael, Cyn sees the Houston job as a welcome refuge, a place to get away and heal her broken heart. But Texas will be no vacation. Cyn will confront a true enemy in Jabril, one who will go to any lengths to satisfy his lusts, enrich his coffers, and expand his power.

Fighting for the lives of two young sisters, Cyn's journey will take her through the streets of Houston and back to L.A., where the human police are determined to bring Raphael down for the murder of one of their own. But the danger doesn't end there.

Jabril has set his sights on Cyn, and he will stop at nothing to have her.

Evil never sleeps

Would you listen to Jabril again? Why?

Yes, I would. Lord Jabril is an evil, evil vampire and the story just sucks you in. I like hearing his downfall and not just reading about it.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that there were many layers to the story, it wasn't just about Rafael and Cynthia. The secondary plots were well thought out and engaging.

What does Traci Odom bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just like with the first book, I really like how the secondary characters come to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rafael finally concedes how he truly feels about Cynthia. Definitely a moment that stands out.

Any additional comments?

Fast paced, intense and a great cast of characters. Definitely worth a credit.

Adventure and suspense with part 2 of Cyn & Raf

This book picks up where book one left off. Cyn and Raf haven't resolved their feelings or a relationship and Cyn takes the opportunity offered in a case in Texas to get some distance. She quickly realizes the vipers den she's entered into.

What's nice about this series, is that like Cat and Bones (J. Frost), Sookie Stackhouse, Anita Blake and other paranormal female heros, Cyn isn't defined by the male hero, and neither is the story revolving around the romance. In fact, Cyn isn't waiting around for Raphael to stop his dude-denial and calmly moves on with her life. With this particular couple it's more the story of some dangerous cases in book one and book two that Cyn has to resolve (seems compelledf to resolve). Oh, and by the way, in the background there's a hot dude and some combustible chemistry and they have some unresolved things to hash out. This makes for a pleasant change up.

I really enjoyed the strong female hero who doesn't NEED the guy to be complete, but they find their HEA after all the suspense and drama in a more quiet way. I had a couple eye-rolling issues, such as why, if she can communicate mentally with him, doesn't she warn him of the trap he's walking into or communicate other salient and simple things--but those might be freshman author things that will smooth out later. I'd give this a 4.1 rating.

I'm hoping there will be more of the series offered on Audible. I'd spend another credit on the next one willingly. In fact, I'll be buying a couple paperbacks in the meantime. Fans of the series above will likely enjoy this one.
Enjoy!

VERY GOOD.

I like the romance between Raphael and Cyn. Beautiful. Strong protagonists and lots of action and intrigues. Jabril is evil through and through and he deserved to die. Duncan is another interesting character and I look forward to a book on him. Very well written and Traci Odom did a good job with all the different voices and nuances for the characters. She brought the characters to life and it was most enjoyable. Worth a credit.

Evil Vampire Lord vs. Puny Human Woman

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love this series. This book was an integral to the development of Raphael and Cin's relationship. It also shows that all vampire lords are not out for the greater good of their people. It is a true good vs. evil book.

What did you like best about this story?

Raphael's realization regarding Cin - and their relationship.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Her performance was very good. It makes for a great audio.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a good audio book, but it wouldn't be easy to listen in one sitting.
