Publisher's summary

In a world where war would result in complete annihilation, proxy war by simulation is the new way.

When a Marine turned video gamer is recalled for the world’s first virtual war, he learns the sim has been hacked. What follows is a crazy adventure of one Marine searching for survivors, battling mechs, and finding abnormalities in the sim that tie back to his old-school days as a gamer. His only help comes in the form of three badass warrior ladies, and two of them are characters from his favorite games.

It's up to him and his new friends to win this war or die trying.

Note: This audiobook has a lot of death but a lot of fun. Be prepared for chaos and mayhem one minute, silly old-school game references the next (think Rampart, Seiken Densetus 2, etc.), and team building in a harem style. It's possibly the weirdest audiobook to which you've ever listened. For fans of Ready Player One and consumers of GameLit.

Hell yeah!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good ol' badassery and ass kicking here. It was fun, gritty, highly entertaining! The narration is very well done. All in all, if you love the LitRPG/Gamelit genre, you should pick this one up. My only bitch is that I wish these were longer. I always tend to finish them in one sitting and am left wanting more.

Simply mesmerizing

The story pulls you into all the oldies games of yesteryear. I would like to see more of this in the future.

Good Book, Great Start!

I enjoyed this book the characters seemed relatable, the action was good and the plot was interesting. It also is a great setup for an ongoing series. I want to see more growth from the female characters. I can’t wait for the next audiobook!

Have I read this before?

This book does smack of “Ready Player One” but military instead of Capitalist. Still a good listen.

Retro gaming meets VR gamelit

This was a really fun listen. I really liked how old school games and beloved characters were not only a big part of the plot, but made appearances and helped out. Definitely similar to Ready Player One with the retro gaming nostalgia, but a classic stuck in the game LitRPG with high stakes. Excited for the next book and where it goes from here.

Another great book from a leader in the genre!

While not a big fan of audiobooks, this one was an easy listen. the narrator was easy to understand, well spoken and did a great job giving voices to the multiple characters. As for the book, it had a steadily flowing plot that was easy to follow. Multiple interesting settings both in and out of the game world and a diverse group of characters. The protagonist has a sense of depth and backstory that allows the reader to easily connect to the story. All of the characters seem realistic as do their actions and choices. Action packed throughout the final fight of this book was written wonderful and still leaves the option for more books in the series.

A wonderful book.

This book was very well written. The combination of Justin Sloan And Jamie Hawke was flawless. An interesting take on future wars and the ramifications thereof

right well much better then I was expecting

I have too say Jamie hawk has a habit of surprising me with the quality of their work. our hero has a tragic back story that makes him actually sympathetic instead of just pathetic. not to mention that while I was disappointed this wasnt a smutty bang fest it was pretty damn great.
