Good read, terrible reader

Liked the narrative hated the narrator. He had a terrible accent and mispronounced numerous words and names.

The narration was just awful. It really ruined the whole thing for me. Truly terrible narrator with this gruff monotone voice.

Great audiobook

some of the killer's I have heard about and some I have not heard of this is a great boxset I really recommend this audiobook boxset of books for true crime fans I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook set

After listening to 70 books…
he’s not even close to the worst I’ve heard. The book was very good overall.

Abbreviated Achievement

Remember when the ‘True Crime’ section of your favorite bookstore was way off in the corner? There were maybe fifty or so books available? Now with the advent of Audible and other online listening platforms, the titles of ‘True Crime’ seem never ending. With the genre being as popular as it is, there seems to be no shortage of sub-genres and spin-off genres.
Not every true-crime author has the writing chops of a Jack Olsen or a M. William Phelps, but I do believe that we have yet to see the best of author Jamie Melton. Melton’s stories are not only compact and compelling, they are the stories that come from page 3 of the newspaper and not the front page. Greg Sisco provides a somewhat unique approach to the narration of the book. His monotone delivery provides an eerie, dark sociopathy feeling to text. If you’re a ‘Last Podcast On The Left’ listener, this one’s for you. Brilliant

Interesting but hard to listen

This audiobook is hard to review. I struggled to come up with a star rating. I love Jamie Malton’s writing. The cases are well researched, and I love her format. I appreciate the attention given to both sides of the cases, victims and perpetrators alike. The quality of writing and depth of background information on each side gives a fair portrait of those involved in each case and helps draw me into the story and see each case unfold in my mind. This set of books did not disappoint in that regard.

Due to the above, I can normally devour a volume in 3-4 days in ebook format. The biggest problem I have with her audiobooks is the narrator. I do wish she had found a better voice. The nasally monotone makes listening to more than a couple cases each day difficult, even with speed increased. (Adding .1 to the speed helps, but in the end, I still can only take so much.) I will eventually finish this one and probably listen to more, but they are definitely slower and more spread out than I would prefer. I like to binge these books, but due to narrator I just cannot.

So 5 stars for the author/content. 2.5 stars for narrator. I guess an overall 3. I am not quite half way on this one, but I will finish it. If you choose the audio version, I find setting speed to 1.1 helps a lot while not making it a speed reading contest.

Overall, if you like these types of books, you will probably like it. I definitely recommend ebook or paper over the audio for large volumes like this if you prefer to binge read through the cases. It has a nice mix of locations across the globe, making repeats of known cases unlikely.

Ridiculous Narration

I can't believe paid for this. The narrator's affect is absurd. I wouldn't mind getting a refund.

The information is alright, the reader isn't.

The reader is robotic, with poor pacing and much vocal fry. Nobody edited out the mouth sounds and it gets increasingly maddening. Pronunciations are off. My son heard a little and said it sounds like the narrator just smoked a whole pack of cigarettes.
