Story
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

If you've never read a Repairman Jack novel, this is the place to begin. It's 1990. A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

Story
Marsalis is one of a new breed...literally. Genetically engineered by the U.S. government to embody the naked aggression and primal survival skills that centuries of civilization have erased from humankind, Thirteens were intended to be the ultimate military fighting force. The project was scuttled, however, when a fearful public branded the supersoldiers dangerous mutants, dooming the Thirteens to forced exile on Earth's distant, desolate Mars colony. But Marsalis found a way to slip back.

Excellent Story
One of the best of the Death series. J. D. Robb aka Nora Roberts weaves an exciting tale filled with crazy action, love, emotion and friendship. Susan Erickson makes the story come to life with her talented way of giving each character their own voice. I am a real fan.

Another great listen
I really love the characters of Eve Dallas and Roarke. They are complex and interesting. This story is another addition to the In Death series. I like the evolution of the Peabody and McNab, as well as learning more about Peabody’s past through meeting her brother Zeke. Fast read!

Good story
I always like visiting the world of Dallas and Rourke. The mystery here was pretty good, though I thought as we went along there were too many coincidences to actually be coincidence. I knew they would all pull together in the end wrapped in a neat bow. I always love the interactions between Eve and Rourke. Even when they're pissed at each other they help one another. It was nice to meet a member of Peabody's family and I loved the fact that she and McNab finally got together. It's been a while in coming. The cameo by Mavis was nice but I did miss her throughout most of the book. She's such a colorful character. Susan Ericksen as narrator did fabulously well, as always. Her voices are so consistent for the characters from book to book. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Awesome book and narrator!!!
The books in this series so far is thought provoking as well has humorous and romantic. I love the character development. I suggest reading them in order so you have an understanding of the relational involvement of the characters. I'm currently on book 10 but had to add my 2 cents. I have loved each book tremendously and can't wait to see what happens next with Eve, Roark, Peabody, Mavis, Nadine, Mira and so on!!!!!!!

JD Robb always does a wonderful story
The addition of Zeke to the traditional cast was good, Mavis was brought in beautifully. I did know it was Clarissa early in but it didn't ruin the story, well done.

Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is ...
...because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t. - Mark Twain
This story was first released in 1999.
Two years before 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States and two years before The Twins Towers in New York city , symbols that identify the U.S. power and greatness went down.
One could say, this book is a premonition of what happened that day . Only with different outcome as Eve , Rourke and her team saved the day.

Never a disappointment!
You can never go wrong with a combination of Roberts/Robb and S. Erickson on any book. The detail imagination brought together with the narrative talent are a WIN WIN to this or any of Nora Robert's books.
Then you have the most memorable and interesting experiences given to each character and story line, that keeps you finding ways to continue listening to what is about to play out.
