Story
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

In the unbearable heat of another sultry Washington, D.C., summer, a serial killer is on the loose. Dr. Tess Court, one of the capital’s most successful psychiatrists, wants nothing to do with the case—until the police convince her to lend a hand to the lead investigator, legendary ladies’ man Detective Ben Paris. Scarred by his family’s history, Ben has even less use for shrinks than Tess has for him—but the forces of animal magnetism and a shared desire to catch the demented criminal known as “The Priest” inexorably erode the walls they’ve built.

If you've never read a Repairman Jack novel, this is the place to begin. It's 1990. A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

Story
Marsalis is one of a new breed...literally. Genetically engineered by the U.S. government to embody the naked aggression and primal survival skills that centuries of civilization have erased from humankind, Thirteens were intended to be the ultimate military fighting force. The project was scuttled, however, when a fearful public branded the supersoldiers dangerous mutants, dooming the Thirteens to forced exile on Earth's distant, desolate Mars colony. But Marsalis found a way to slip back.

IN DEATH SERIES
I have read all the paper backs in this series and love the story line. But we’re some books. I do not believe Roberts wrote them. But so far so good. I love the fact that Audible picked up this series to listen 🎧 to them in this different format I. Believe there are over 50 books 📚 in this series.......yes a lot of credits.....but when I do find a book 📖 I believe it is not Roberts I will return it. This is just my feeling. The series are murder mystery’s..who done it and the chase is on. The narrator is the best and the only one that does justice to this series. Any one else ⬇️ thumbs down SUSAN ERICKSEN IS THE ONLY ONE.

Terror, brothers and drills
It’s February 2059, a year since Eve and Roarke first met., and they face their most dangerous adversary yet in the terrorist Group Cassandra.
Things are both sweeter and more complicated with the arrival of Peabody’s brother Zeke who is working a carpentry commission.
The story starts with one of the more unusual deaths in the series - death by power drill, which is darkly humorous.
Ericksen, as always, does a good job of narration.

Relevance
Considering this was written more than 20-years ago, it is amazing how it sounds like our times. As always I loved the book and will anxiously await reading the next book in the series.

Eve and Roarke face BIG danger
Too many people die in this story, but the suspense is great! We meet Peabody’s baby brother who is very naïve about the city and women. Crisis of faith between our heroes, which gives Eve some problems with her solving the mystery, but all in all, a very exciting read.

I needed tissue for this one.
I love how the narrator uses different voices for the various characters. I can picture the story unfolding like a movie in my head. I wish I had tissues many times during the story as I could emphasize with the characters.
