We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Story
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

The brain is a marvelous and complex organ that takes decades to fully mature, and no stage in that long process is more critical than the one we call the “toddler” years. During this period—from about one year old to three years old—a child transforms from a helpless infant into a running, chatting, insatiably curious little person with distinctive traits and interests. So, what is happening in the brain during this metamorphosis? How do humans acquire the motor, linguistic, and social skills that define this vital childhood period? Lise Eliot offers answers to these intriguing questions.

Good Advice to Help with Self-Discipline
This book was well written and researched, you can tell as you listen to it. There are bits of advice or tips on how to catch yourself that are worth the price of the book many times over. The book is concise yet very effective, doesn't go long into the non-actionable information etc. that we all want but can get through additional research etc.

Excellent!
It's an excellent, insightful, accessible book. The audiobook performance is great as well. I will pass this on my children because the input is without expiration date.

Excellent read
Great book! Just finished and going to listen again. Very practical application not redundant at all. The author spoke about self discipline in a way that was very achievable and gave you different ways to approach not a one size fits all.

Good Motivational Read
Good stuff. Nothing that's earth shattering, just good to hear what I need to be doing.

Probably the best book I've encountered on self discipline- a great listen and completely actionable. Amazing!

Good book
Interesting content. Mainly a combination of what your Grandmother told you as a child with a touch of NLP thrown in. With the listen & narration is good.

Great self discipline tools
This book gave great tips on creating good habits and overcoming bad ones. I'm actually going to listen to it again so I can write down more helpful things that were said on the audio book. It was very encouraging
