#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

“Pure, escapist gold . . . Mr. Child’s tough talk and thoughtful plotting make an ingenious combination.”—
The New York Times

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter–a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning–and then beat him shot for shot.

Great listen

This was a fun listen. I found myself binging it and often chuckling out loud over the funny quotes of the main character. Hard to believe they cast Tom Cruise for Reacher in the movie. I'll have to check that out.

The movie might be better than the book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is an outstanding book and story. The performance with the different voices and dialects is superb. I'd seen the movie first and didn't realize it was taken from a book, so it was fun to remember as it went along and to notice the differences in the story line. I will definitely continue the series.

The book is always better than the movie...

Of course, Dick Hill's narration of One Shot is superb as always! This title once again proves the book is still always better than the movie. Without spoiling it for those trying to decide if this book is worth the audible credit, the characters left out of the movie and included in the book make this a classic Reacher novel and more plausible!

They continue to entertain. Dick Hill IS Reacher.

this was one of my favorites. storyline had plenty of characteristic twists to keep it interesting. really enjoy Dick Hill's narration. to me, he sounds like I envision Reacher does. cadence, inflection, tempo, and inflection.

As usual, the book is better than the movie.

I'm glad the movie was made because it introduced me to the books. I started with Tripwire and now what feels like a dozen books later I finally finished the book that inspired the movie. And the best part is that even though I've seen the movie, it didn't necessarily spoil the book.

The 8th Reacher, but 2nd in Chronological Orde

An early Jack Reacher story (8th written but 2nd in chronological order) has a steady well thought pace. More characters than typically presented but each is unique and sound. It's unusual to have a bevy of strong females in a Reacher novel and I enjoyed them all.

There is a feeling that early on the author attempted a follow up to The Affair with an assassin tale gone wrong but couldn't get it right or strong enough. Perhaps it was brought forward as an incredibly strong backstory for an unsympathetic sniper character. If so, it was done brilliantly. No more d on that for spoiler characters.

Especially enjoy the retired marine!

A book you can't out down.

A great read and even better to listen to. The reader is spellbinding and keeps you in amazement at least little bit of time.
