Publisher's summary

She's hunting for a mate
and there's no more playing it safe.

Daisy Minor is bored. Worse than that, she's boring. A plain, small-town librarian, she's got a wardrobe as sexy as a dictionary and hasn't been on a date in years. She's never even had a lukewarm love affair, let alone a hot one. So when she wakes up on her 34th birthday and wonders how it is that she still lives with her widowed mom and spinster aunt while her friends have all gotten married and started families, she decides it's time to get a life - and a sex life. And as far as she can tell, good girls don't attract nearly as many men as bad ones.

One makeover later, Daisy has transformed herself into a party girl extraordinaire. She's dancing the night away at clubs, and laughing and flirting with men for the first time in, well, forever. With a new lease on her own place, it's open season for manhunting.

But on her way home late one night, Daisy sees something she's not supposed to see. Suddenly the target of a killer, she's forced to put her manhunt on hold.

But the very moment she stops looking might be the moment she finds what she's wanted all along.

Critic reviews

"An enjoyable romantic thriller. Kate Forbes' narration is relaxed and sensual, her Southern accents believable. Male voices are effective, and Forbes easily handles both the bantering and the suspense." (AudioFile)

Fun Romp

Linda Howard always writes a good, hot story. It's hard to believe that a woman would wait until her thrties for romance but other than that, the story was a lot of fun.

When you need a lift...this is a fun story

I've read this book in hard copy, I've even managed to find an unabridged library copy of the audiobook and yes the abridged version is not as good, but still it'll give you a lift. It's just fun read. If I have a really down day or read something that's heavy, or simply ends sad this book is a great way to perk up your day. For me, Linda Howard is my number one "must read". Open Season is not her best, not her most touching, not her best mystery (since there really isn't any mystery to mention in it) but it has to be something she wrote when she was having a really good day. If you need a lift, Daisy and Jack are good way to start.

one of the best!

I love Linda Howard, and have this book in paper, but needed a copy to take with, and this one is it! Linda Howard is an author you can buy without knowing anything about the story. She never disappoints, and even though this is an abridged version and I miss a couple parts from the original, the rest is so good it's worth it! The narrator is FABULOUS, and I'm looking for any other books she's read. She's wonderful here, laugh out loud funny, and her voice is like an instrument she definitely knows how to play. If they can get her and do Open Season again unabridged, I'll buy that one too!

Good book, lots of action

I love this book, it's one of my personal favorites. It has enough action/adventure to keep you listening, enough comedy to keep you laughing, and enough loving to be a romance novel.

I just wish I hadn't purchased the abridged version. It left a lot of stuff out, and rushed the conculsion. Read the real book, or get an unabridged copy. You'll be glad you did.

Great Story

This is one of my favorite Linda Howard books, and one of my favorite books in general. I go back to it at least once a year and Daisy never ceases to amaze me. Howard has managed to capture this character's naivety and lack of guile as no other author could. So I was a little disappointed that the audio book version was abridged. I think that the actor's voice didn't quite capture Daisy's warm and engaging personality. Overall the story is excellent, however it's treatment as an audio book was unexpectedly disappointing.
