Publisher's summary

Welcome to Port of Refuge - another light and quirky island mystery steeped in Outer Banks culture, from the author who took you to Port Starbird.

Storm Ketchum, a damaged emigre to Hatteras Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks, generally prefers to stay close to home and mind his own business - but he unexpectedly finds himself entangled with a cult-like coven of modern-day Roanoke Island witches when a relative of his paramour meets an untimely end on church property. Is the High Priestess of the Croatoan Covenant Church really in contact with the departed spirits of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island? Are the members of her church really from both this world and the next? Or is she just a con artist preying on gullible Wiccan acolytes - and is she a killer? A desire to provide closure for the family drives Ketch to once again call on his amateur sleuthing skills to conjure up answers to these and other questions, in the process risking the physical and spiritual well-being of both himself and the one he loves.

Join Ketch, his loyal dog Jack, and his Kinnakeet Boatyard friends as they embark on a bewitching new adventure in the picturesque Outer Banks, where intrigue continues to cast its spell on them all.

Give it a go

I enjoyed this story and am glad I have it as an audio book, as I will be able to listen to it again and again. I really enjoyed the cast of characters that help the main character to solve the murder of his girlfriend's aunt, with a few good twists thrown in to make sure you are still listening. Will be looking out for the next book.

Interesting tale!

A fine story of loss, love, while dealing with who-done-it scenarios and sex thrown in.

Enjoyable Adventure

Port of Refuge was an enjoyable story with a steady pace. I like how the Author incorporates the history of the Outer Banks into his tale and since I have visited that area some things were familiar to me which made it all the more interesting. Bob Johnson's narration brought the characters to life and I was able to distinguish between them easily which I like. I will definitely be purchasing more of both Author and Narrators work in the future. I was given a free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fun, exciting book.

Audio version.
It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities. So far I've never given a 1.
2 blah but there are redeeming qualities.
3 ok worth reading.
4 great but there's something off.
5 loved it.

So now about this story. It took me awhile to get through this, (See what I had to say about narrator). This is the first book I've Listened/read, by Garrett Dennis but it won't be the last. It is a little confusing as it refers to the previous book many times. I can't wait for more of this series, I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't do it to you by going into details.
Now about the narrator... I'm afraid he put me to sleep many times. I couldn't listen for more than about 20 minutes or so without nodding off. A nice voice but too soothing.
Reasons I enjoyed this audio book:
Witty, Romantic, Wonderful characters, Great world building, Unpredictable, original, Entertaining, Action-packed, Twisted, Funny.
Bookshelves/tags:
adult, angst, contemporary, humorous, mystery, romance, series, suspense
This Audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

More fun!

outer-banks, amateur-sleuth, mystery, action-adventure, friendship, verbal-humor -----
The previous adventure is slipped into this one so that there are no serious gaps in understanding the characters or their bonding, and although the first one was good, this one is even better. The story line is different from most, the location is not ordinary either, and the characters certainly are. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare you for all the suspense and laughs. Excellent read!
I have it in Whispersync, and I think that Bob Johnson does a fantastic audio interpretation.

Wow!

This is the second book by Garrett Dennis that I have listened to. Bob Johnson has performed several books that I have, so I am familiar with his voice and inflections. He does such a great job with his performances. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. Overall, this book is excellent, but the subject deals with Wiccan activities. The descriptions of the outer banks were very good. I liked how one could visualize the scene. I enjoyed the fact that the author was consistent in his characters from the other book I listened to. The narrator did not disappoint with his various characters. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook upon my request by the author, narrator, and or publisher. (My rating for the story was not higher because I was not comfortable with the cult).

Book 2

Excellent second story with great character, plot, and storyline development. The story kept my interest the entire time with Ketch, Kari, and the gang. The audio narrator did a fantastic job. This book can be read on its own but I'd recommend reading The books in order.
